A reminder to Appleton City residents that taxes are due December 31. A penalty will be assessed for any late payments. Taxes are now payable to the County Collector at the courthouse in Osceola.
Our community is ringing the bell at Food Fair on Fridays and Saturdays until Christmas. This year, total collection will go to AC Area Ministerial Alliance and the Backpack Program. These programs are for the community funded by our/your community. Thank you for your continued support.

The 40th SW MO Spring Forage Conference will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Oasis Hotel and Convention Center, 2546 N. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, Missouri. Keynote presenter Jim Gerrish, independent grazing lands consultant, will address the conference on “Why we can’t continue business as usual”. For further education, conference participants can attend several breakout sessions, with topics such as: pasture recovery following drought, benefits of annual forages, native warm season grass establishment & management, enterprise options for $5000/acre pasture, extending the grazing season, managing nitrates in your forage system, understanding beef quality & yield, geo fencing, benefits & economics of liming, black vultures, and stretching your forage through efficient hay feeding. This conference also provides educational sessions specific to sheep and goat producers. These session topics include myths around parasite control, breed selection or crossbreeding, and a multi-species grazing Q&A that includes a key small ruminant industry producer as well as being moderated by an MU Extension Specialist. There will also be a producer panel discussing guard animals that includes local sheep and goat producers. A trade show is held in conjunction with the conference. Agricultural businesses and organizations will have exhibits and representatives available to discuss their products and services. It is important to provide the latest information on beef cattle production, marketing, economics, nutrition and forage utilization. Extension services from universities of Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Arkansas are providing a joint conference titled the KOMA Beef Cattle Conference. This year’s Missouri portion of the conference will be held on February 12, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the MU Southwest Research Extension and Education Center, 14548 State Rd H, Mount Vernon, MO 65712. This year’s conference will update the public on recent research from the 4 universities in cattle feeding, supplementation, reproduction, and grazing management. These presentations will be given by university agricultural graduate students and professors. In addition, there will be a keynote presentation given by James Mitchell who is an extension livestock economist with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. A catered lunch will be provided by MERCK Animal Health. In addition, snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day. Agriculture businesses that support the event will also have booths set up. Attendees can visit the booths and learn how their products can help improve their beef cattle operation.
