A new year and with my husband Mike’s passing, new changes to my grocery shopping habits. However, there are a lot of meal prep ideas which don’t change since they are applicable to many preparations.

I love roasted vegetables, easy and quick to prepare and you can determine the amount. The big tip is to preheat the oven to 425 and preheat the sheet pan you are using. This facilitates the process. I often use bottled vinaigrette, toss vegetables to coat. A light sprinkle of parmesan cheese after roasting is a favorite.

I love deviled eggs but hate the peeling process. Steaming eggs makes it easy. Place eggs in a covered steamer over boiling water for 13 minutes, then plunge into a bowl of cold water to stop cooking. I use a pinch of curry powder and dried mustard in the egg yolk mix.

I love shrimp cocktails but I use frozen shrimp instead of thawing out under running water or overnight in the frig. I gently poach them in enough water to cover by 2 inches. Add some Old Bay Seasoning, a few peppercorns and other additions you might desire. Gently bring the water to a very low simmer. Do not let it go to a higher heat, this will toughen the shrimp. Watch and when the shrimp just begins to turn pink, turn off heat and let them cool in the poaching liquid. Chill
