Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:00 am for pre-church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting with one another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. We want to Thank Tucker McNeely for ringing the church bell this morning.
We woke to an unusually warm day, even though there was a misty drizzle in the air. But this did not dampen the spirits of the ones gathering on this Blessed Christmas Eve.
Tucker and Savannah McNeely did a great job lighting the alter candles. We were blessed to have Reverend Jackson Short lead us in prayer to help us lift up our family, neighbors and friends in need. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue forward as a Community Church on the square in Calhoun, MO.
We celebrated the fourth Sunday of Advent. The candles were lighted by Debbie and Floyd Joy, Sue Lesmeister and Linda Hawkins, as the congregation sang the Advent Song. Verna Walters blessed us with singing “It Wasn’t His Child”.
Reverend Jackson Short delivered a message to raise our spirits. When Debbie Joy’s Sunday School Class rejoined the congregation, they presented Reverend Short with a Christmas present. The class consisted of Kynzlee Conner and Savannah, Tucker and Mason McNeely. Underneath the tree was a selection of teddy bears, donated by Reverend Jackson and Sondra Short. The children selected a bear and a stocking loaded with goodies. Then they assisted Ms Debbie in delivering gifts to everyone.
We are a Concerned and Praying Nondenominational Church. Should you find yourself in need of prayer, we encourage you to join us any Sunday morning. We will be Blessed by your presence.
Drakes Chapel UMC
As family and friends gathered at Drake’s Chapel on a rainy Christmas eve, the light of Christ shown brightly. We were sharing the love for the birth of the Christ child and the love we have as a church family and followers of our Lord and Savior.
We combined our regular service with our Christmas Eve Candlelight service. The pews were filled with many as we listened to the story of the birth of our Savior through narration and music. Master Avery McCloud assisted Pastor Margie with the lighting of the candles. Pastor Margie gave communion to and prayed for each family. This has been a tradition at Drake’s Chapel for many years.
The service came to an end as the congregation lit their candles while singing Silent Night.
Our church also received two new members last Sunday. David and Lori Rima became a part of Drake’s family.
Our Holiday brunch will be held on January 7th after worship. We look forward to winding down the holiday season by breaking bread with each other. Our time together is always special.
We hope you will join us each Sunday at 9 for Pastor’s Margie’s message and that you will feel the love of Christ through our service. If you cannot join us in person, please find us on Facebook live, just look for Margie Briggs. You will find our beautiful chapel 5 miles east of Clinton off hwy 52. Just look for the sign on the highway. May your New Year be full of blessings!
First Baptist
On Christmas Eve, Pastor Pat Findley delivered the final message of his Christmas sermon series, ‘SENT to Redeem & Adopt’. Speaking from Galatians 4, Pastor Pat described how God fulfilled his promise from the beginning that sin would not have to be our destiny. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we reflect on His promise, the reason God sent His son. First, God’s gift was a long-awaited moment. The birth of Jesus was not about His beginning, but His becoming flesh as Immanuel, meaning ‘God with us’. The miracle of His incarnation was God revealing Himself as fully man, while also being fully God. Jesus offers justification, redeeming us and setting us free from our sin and brokenness. This justification can be considered “just as if I’d never sinned”, declaring us righteous. Finally, God invites us to adoption, the highest privilege of the Gospel, as God’s child and co-heir with Jesus Christ. As sinners, our only hope is Christ. Even though we are broken, Jesus came anyway, giving us salvation to all who come to Him. The gift is offered, but we must turn to Christ to receive it!

“The Name of Jesus is the Greatest Name”
I needed to give all the scriptures so you can go back and read them for yourself and know that this message is based on the scriptures.
The name of Jesus is the greatest name I know but it seems like it is just another name to some people.
The Holy Ghost is involved in the book of Matthew and Luke and we want to rejoice with the heavenly host. Jesus’s name is precious and we call on him almost every day.
Genesis 49:10.
A scepter is a staff carried by rulers.
Shilo means a reference to Jesus, the Messiah, a peaceful one, and a gift from God.
Until Shilo comes, that is when things will begin to happen.
David said ‘How excellent is thou name in all the earth.’ (Psalms 8:1) and Psalms 72:17, says his name shall endure forever.
God gave Isaiah much insight into Shilo.
Isa 7:14, 9:6-7.
This is pointing to Matthew in the New Testament. God described what Shilo would be like. Isaiah 11:2, 5-7.
Isa 11:2.
He described him as the foundation and stone that we read about in the New Testament. (Isaiah 28:16, Matthew 21:42)
God wanted us to know that a change was coming.
Isa 62:2.
A new name was coming to Shilo that would follow him to Bethlehem. That name will be a name of Joy, Praise, and honor before all nations. (Jeremiah 33:9) When we get there all nations will know it.
Mic 5:2.
We will know that this is the greatest event to ever occur. We will see in Matthew 1:20- 25 that Shilo is Jesus, here to save us from our sins.
Mal 1:14.
Shilo is wonderful, but no one to play with be careful.
The glory of the Lord was seen and all eyes were open. The heavenly host praised God. Those things in the Old Testament point to the New Testament.
(Luke 2:8-14)
John 16:23-28
Because he, Jesus was going back to the Father, he would not pray the Father for you. After all, he will be on the throne to receive your prayers because he and the father are one.
We are chosen to bear his name, though we will face persecution. (Acts 9:15-16)
A name above every name. Every knee will bow, and every tongue confesses he is Lord.
(Philippians 2:9-11)
We should do all in the name of Jesus.
(Colossians 3:17)
He, who opens doors, no man can shut and shuts doors no man can open.
(Revelation 3:7-8)
God will wipe away all tears, and sorrow, no more death. The former things will pass away. He is the He that overcomes shall inherit all things. (Revelation 21:4-7)
He is the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end. (Revelation 22:12-16)
Even so, come Lord Jesus.

With love in our hearts we gathered on this Christmas Eve Sunday to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced and celebrated with Robert and Gail Perrymann on their 32nd wedding anniversary. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from Luke 1:26-38 and Luke 2:1-20. This passage and time of year reminds us of the hope, peace, joy, and love that Jesus Christ has given us. These gifts should be remembered throughout the year. Through God’s mercy we can live a life forgiven and have eternal life with Him. Bless someone this week.
Valley Center United
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Now you will conceive and bear a son and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
A warm welcome was given to the many friends and family who came to our Christmas Eve services. For 151 years, Valley Center has opened their doors for the community, our church family and beyond to come here on Christmas Eve to sing the familiar songs and to hear the story of the miraculous birth of Jesus. Stephanie Neuenschwander gave a warm welcome to all! Our choir sang Stille Nacht (Silent Night) and the candles were lit. Special songs were sung by Karen Switzer, Jessica LaFarge and David Maggi. It was a joyful evening!
This morning, Rev Dane gave the wonderful message, “The Light Shall NEVER be Extinguished”.
Whether we feel lonely, joyful, busy, anxious or peaceful, we know that God is with us. Jesus was born for our sins and died for our salvation. God reached out to us and to all the world in the form of a little baby. We find peace, comfort and hope from knowing that he is the bright light that will never be extinguished.
We came with the Spirit of Christmas and we are inspired to continue to keep that light of God shining, and proclaim that Jesus is our Lord and Savior.
We give thanks for the glory and splendor of Christ’s birth.
