This I Remember

Bill Bremer: “I attended school in Smithton right outside of Sedalia. We had a newer soccer program but we got good pretty fast. We went to the State playoffs both my freshmen and senior years (1986 &1988). We went to St. Louis for the Final Four games and it was the first time any of us had played on turf. It was terrible. It was the old, very hard turf. There was no way you could do slide tackles and the ball would run forever. Modern turf is much better.”
Bill also reminisced about the early days of the CHS girls soccer program when coming up with wins was very hard to do.
Bill’s son Brant is now on the Cardinal soccer team and is a very good varsity winger. People sometimes forget about the number of parents that grew up playing soccer. Soccer is no longer the brand new sport that it once was.
Bill might like to know that his old Smithton Tigers soccer program are 21-0 at this writing. Also note the Tiger head coach is Sean Hutchinson one of the Cardinals former head coaches. Maybe they will get to the Final Four again and hopeful play on real grass or modern turf. The Tigers did win their District last year.
