China is at it again. They’re building full scale mock-ups of our warships to practice for naval strikes. Forget climate change, this is where it’s at kids! Patton knew that someday the world would have to destroy communism. We were lucky to avoid a full scale conflict with the Soviet Union thanks to President Reagan. Meanwhile our Secretary of Defense is building training simulations to take down the threat of parents at school board meetings. What a crazed world we live in.

Last week I mentioned that Warsaw was once known as the Gunstock Capitol of the World. Annie at the Democrat office said that was well and good, but Clinton was once known as the Baby Chick Hatchery of the World. Trains going through Clinton were kept busy shipping out baby chicks to places all over the country. Many people in surrounding towns, including Warsaw worked for the hatcheries. Annie said the Lindstrom Hatchery was one of the big ones.

We’ve been lucky with the weather here, but old man winter will soon knock on the door and walk in. Monday’s balmy temperatures brought to mind a November day way back in the 1980’s. A warm sun was beaming down and I was on the Osage River with my Dad and Bob and Matthew Boring. We spent the afternoon playing shuffleboard at Cardinal Cove. When we arrived the place was full of lots of people we knew. Why has this day stayed with me down the years? I simply do not know, but it was joyous time, long ago. A lot of those present that day are in other parts of the world now…. and some farther than that. When we’re young we never know where life will take us and what we’ll see along the way. That’s a blessing. Most of us can recall a few occasions when life brought the utmost joy and that afternoon was one of them. We’ve all had our tragedies too. Perhaps the greatest gift is laughter. It tides us over many rough spots, as we enjoy the ridiculous together and we often do at the Enterprise and Democrat offices.
