VFW Hosts Shootin' The Breeze Breakfast

Posted

VFW Post 1894 would like to thank everyone who came out and enjoyed their second Shootin The Breeze Breakfast for Veterans on Saturday February 11th. This new event takes place once a month at the post, providing a free breakfast, information, and a chance to come together for veterans and active duty military. Post Commander Bruce Tarleton spoke on what prompted the post to start this new event. “The reason we started this was that in talking to veterans and other people out in the community I have found that veterans tend to want to get together with other veterans. There is a brotherhood and camaraderie between those who have chewed the same dirt or swallowed the same seawater. We wanted to come up with something where the veterans themselves could get together unencumbered with events and just have a neutral and welcoming place to come, sit, have a cup of coffee and talk.” The commander discussed how each event is an opportunity for veterans to discuss issues, find resources, and get advice from those who have walked the same path. Two veterans were able to get information on VA benefits at Saturday’s breakfast, and others simply enjoyed good company and good food. Ashley Jefferies and Justin Whitlatch of Good Shepherd Hospice provided breakfast casseroles, pastries, coffee and juice for the veterans and their spouses. The next breakfast will be Saturday March 11th starting at 8 AM and running until 10 AM. Veterans or active military are invited and may bring their spouse. Each month the breakfast will be provided by a different sponsor. If you would be interested in sponsoring a breakfast, please reach out to Jennifer Umland at 660-525-0470.
