The Parents & Friends of the Appleton City FFA would like to invite you to their Annual Labor Auction on February 19 in the high school gym. The evening will begin with a buyers dinner at 5:00 p.m. served by Kickin’ Chicken. The live auction starts at 6:00 p.m. They will also have a Savage 17HMR Rifle for raffle and a silent auction which will be setup along the south wall of the high school gym from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. that night.
KC Wolf will be at Hudson R-IX on Thursday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m. to “Edutain”. Everyone is invited.
Golden Apples is an over 50 social club that promotes the well-being of senior citizens in the cities of Appleton City, Montrose and Rockville, Missouri. Golden Apples was formed to address the issues of isolation and food security in this underserved rural area. You are invited to join them each Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for dinner and bingo (with lots of prizes).
The St. Clair Co Cattlemen’s Assn. meeting will be 6:30 p.m. at the Lowry City Boy Scout Building. The Sponsor/Speaker will be Burch and Liles Insurance Solutions.
The AC Spring City Wide Garage Sale dates will be April 28 and 29. Information regarding permits will be posted at a later date.
Three of the ACHS cheerleaders were chosen for a Cheer USA camp in Hawaii. This camp is open to all 50 states and each cheerleader must be nominated by their coach. Cheerleaders are then selected by a committee according to their leadership qualities, cheer skills, positive attitudes, ability to work well with others, academics and coach’s recommendations. Congratulations to Kaydance Litton, Peyton Long, and Damara Hood. The ACHS Alumni Scholarship Foundation, Inc. will award six $3,000 scholarships, at least one each to a traditional college and one to a vocational/trade school. There are no grade point requirements. A short paragraph is required. The DEADLINE is March 8. Please see the High School Counselor for more information.
The ACHS Senior class panels for 2023 special reunion years are displayed at the Farm House Restaurant. Those on display currently are the 50 year class of 1973, 55 year class of 1968, 60 year class of 1963 and the 65 year class of 1958. The 2023 Prom is April 15. In previous years, the AC Junior Class parents have provided an alcohol-free and drug-free all night celebration and fellowship for the junior and senior class students and their guests. This special celebration sends a clear message to every student that we care about their safety and future. They are asking for your sponsorship to continue this FREE after prom celebration. They not only are asking for cash donations but also sponsorships, items for prizes, etc. Your donation is tax deductible and will be recognized as such. If you would like to donate to the Prom All Nighter please leave your donation in the High School office, mail to Appleton City After-Prom Celebration, 408 W. 4th St. Appleton City, MO 64724 or arrange to be picked up at your location. They ask that all donations are made by Wednesday, March 1, 2023. This has been an extremely successful safe project for the ACHS prom goers. Funds are needed for the “Backpack Program”. The backpacks have kid friendly food that goes home with 25 needy school kids weekly. Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City houses this project, which is funded by community donations. At this time, with the increase in cost of groceries, they are reaching out for your help. Donations are accepted at the church. For more information, call 660-492-7591
It is once again time for any non-profit organization to write an essay to possibly win the Elva Gwinn Huffman Quilt contest. Your essay should tell about your group, what you would use the proceeds from this quilt for, and how you would use the quilt to raise the funds. Montrose VFW Post 8820 is sponsoring their 7th Annual Montrose VFW Post 8820 Coyote Tournament March 3-5, 2023. Registration is 6:00 p.m. March 3, 2023. Check-in is March 5 at 3:00 p.m. sharp at the Montrose VFW Hall. Entry fee is $100.00 per team and there will be a $5 side pot for mangiest dog. There is a maximum of three people on a team. Coyotes may be taken by all legal methods as defined by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation. There is a cash payout for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and the biggest dog. All participants will be entered to win door prizes and a Heritage Barkeep 22LR Revolver. Sponsors include Ryan Kalwei Trucking and Rhodes Exterminating. The Truman Lake Community Foundation (TLCF) will distribute more than $70,000 in grants this year, $35,000 this spring, and your organization has an opportunity to receive some of the funds. If your school, 501c3 not-for-profit organization, church, or governmental entity is seeking money for a project, then the TLCF might be able to help. The 2023 TLCF grant making cycle will run until 5:00 pm March 10, 2023. Grant applications must be completed online at https://tinyurl.com/2awtmwj6. There are various foundations on the website, so be sure to look for the Truman Lake Community Foundation Grantmaking Program Spring 2023. Awarded grants will be distributed in April 2023. From the generosity of various organizations and community members, the Truman Lake Community Foundation has ballooned to manage more than twelve million dollars in assets. Generally, TLCF uses interest earnings on some of their funds to facilitate the grants and give back to the community. Since TLCF’s founding, it has given out 384 grants totaling nearly $600,000. Care Connection’s Clinton Senior Center will present a free, five-part online series titled “Gift of Peace of Mind” to help older adults plan for their later years. The series, to be presented at the center at 970 E. Sedalia, will feature a variety of experts at 1:00 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 14 to March 14.
