Shelter Takes Action To Help Area Animals

Posted

The Clinton Animal Shelter is a local non-profit no kill animal shelter for cats and dogs. The shelter has a contract with the city of Clinton to accept animals through Clinton Animal Control. They also rescue animals within the county when they are able. In addition to the contract with the city, the shelter hosts their own fundraisers like garage sales and raffles and they accept monetary donations and supplies. The shelter is equipped to house between 20 and 25 dogs and 40 to 50 cats/kittens. Currently, they are over capacity with roughly 35 dogs and 75 cats/kittens. Heidi Crabtree has been working at the shelter for over 10 years and said they’ve been unusually over capacity much more frequently in the past several months than ever before. The shelter only has two full-time and four part-time employees. They rely on volunteers to help care for the animals and are always looking for more as they only have a handful of consistent volunteers. They are also in need of animal fosters as well. The Clinton Animal Shelter recently accepted donations from three local organizations. Walmart employees held a bake sale and donated the proceeds, Hawthorn Bank employees donated their casual Friday pot, and TCI employees also donated a portion of their paychecks to the shelter.
