Red & White Scrimmage Gives Coaches Good Look At Lady Cards Softball

Posted

On Saturday the Clinton High School girls varsity and JV took to the diamond in a friendly competition against one another. While a book was not kept, the scoreboard was running in the race to see which team would prevail.
The Red team was leading until the 5th inning when White started to catch up with a final 6 inning score of 9 for the Red and 8 for the White.
After the scrimmage, I talked with head coach Sydney Snyder. That interview is below:
OS: Do you think the Red and White game where the girls played against each other was beneficial in real game experience?
SS: I think the scrimmage was as close as we could get to real game experience. They learned some valuable lessons that you can really only learn from game-play, so I think it was very beneficial!
OS: How are they working together as a team thus far?
SS: One of our strengths is our ability to come together as a family. These girls are getting closer and closer daily through hard work and accountability. We truly care for each other and everyone has each other's backs. Being their leader is something I treasure!
OS: Tell me about the game schedule this year, the good and the bad.
SS: Our game schedule this year is very similar to last year with a few changes. We will start our season out at the Lady Pirate Leadoff Classic in Boonville; a bit of a more challenging tournament, but also a tournament I really believe we can win if we show up the way we need to. We will not be playing any week night varsity or JV doubleheaders. With any high school softball season, it is over in the blink of an eye. We will be very, very busy with games during September, so I am constantly encouraging the girls to stay present and enjoy it while it's here!
OS: Tell me about your assistant coaches. How are they interacting with the team?
SS: I am blessed with some amazing assistant coaches. Coach Krista Adams is with us and it will be her fourth year being an assistant for the program. She brings great experience and remains a constant for the girls. Coach Kelly DeHaan is joining us from Lincoln High School. Coach DeHaan is mainly our pitching coach, and brings a tremendous amount of knowledge of the game to the table. Coach Adalia Sewell is joining us as a first year teacher and coach. Having just graduated from Central Methodist University, she brings a ton of energy to our program. Having a coaching staff that has all played at the collegiate level is something that is really beneficial for us. I am very appreciative to my assistants, and could not do this job without them.
OS: Give me some additional information on the culture of the softball environment.
SS: I am grateful to our CHS softball family for the buy-in we have had so far this season. We are continuing to build a strong, tight-knit culture, and it is definitely showing on and off the field! Thank you to our Cardinal family and our Cardinal community!
OS: We wish you the best, Coach!
