O. Cecily Smith, age 66, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
O. Cecily (Murray) Smith was born on July 5, 1957 in Clinton, Missouri to Billy D. Murray and Mary F. (Perry) Murray and grew up in Lowry City, Missouri.
Cecily was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid antiquer (junker). She loved spending time with her grandsons and taking them “thrifting”. Her favorite hobbies were spending time at auctions and garage sales, finding hidden treasures to collect and resale in her booths. She enjoyed the thrill of the buy. She made many friends with the same passion as her that became cherished friends and family. Another favorite hobby of hers was going to the casino. She loved the excitement that came with the lights and sirens going off with a big win.
She loved spending time in her yard taking care of all her plants and flowers. She would wake up in the morning and drink her coffee on the back porch, enjoying the beauty of the flowers and backyard. She really enjoyed when Bree would bring home new plants and ask her for advice and guidance on how to keep them alive.
Every time Aiden and Reed would go to grandma’s they would request her fried tators or a sandwich with “grandma cheese” and white stuff. She always made it with “grandma’s love,” she would say.
Cecily is preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, Brenda Collins, Mary Jo Salisbury and Billy Murray, and her children’s father, Chris Smith.
Survivors include her two children, Shane (Bree) Smith, and Kristy Smith, two grandsons, Aiden Smith and Reed Smith, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held September 7, 2023 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton with Rev. David Mills officiating. Special music included “Home, Hallelujah and Thank the Lord For the Night Time.”
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
