Norma Lee (Strean) Carter, age 89, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Adair Village in Clinton, Missouri.
Norma L Carter was born on March 7, 1934 in Clinton, Missouri to John and Linnie Strean. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1952 and soon after married the love of her life, C.B. Carter, in 1954. This union was blessed with four children; Duane (Sue) Carter, Elaine (Chris) Millam, Allen Carter, and Jennifer (Mitch) Grimes, along with four grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer) Carter, Janelle (Brandon) Jolley, Eric (Allison) Millam, Sara (Shawn) Strough and numerous great grandchildren, and a number of great-great grandchildren that she loved dearly.
Norma worked many years including at Coca Cola, William F Chrome, Stewart Natinger, and the Division of Family Services as a food stamp clerical for 36 years retiring in 1995. After retirement she enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with family, camping, baking, embroidery, reading, working puzzles and studying her bible.
Norma was a member of Northeast Baptist Church for many years and had a great love for her church and her church family. She taught many Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, worked in the kitchen and always was willing to help anyway she could.
Norma and C.B. had a love for Bluegrass music. They would travel all over for music festivals. They met a lot of friends along the way and had a lot of great memories. Norma often said it was some of the best times of her life.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents John and Linnie Strean, one brother, JD Strean, two sisters, Margaret Northrop and Charlene Strean.
Funeral services were held January 18, 2024 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, MO with Rev. David Mills and Pastor Joey Conway officiating. Special music included “How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.” The casket bearers were Mitch Grimes, Nathan Carter, Eric Millam, Brandon Jolley, Chris Millam and Richard Wirsig. Interment followed in Vansant Road Cemetery, Clinton, MO.
Services were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.
