Mount Announces Candidacy For City Council

Posted

My name is Gary Mount, and I am running for Clinton’s Ward 1 City Council. I was born and raised in Clinton and a 1972 graduate of Clinton High School. My parents were George and Clara Mount and I am the youngest of 5. I am married to my very supportive wife, Kathy (Ballou). We have one son Austin and one granddaughter Kylee.
Some of my hobbies include, fishing, gardening, working out, yard work, teaming to play the banjo and guitar, building things and most of all family time. My wife and I enjoy walking and have logged thousands of miles and still going. I enjoy making custom walking sticks and canes which I donate to local veterans and veterans groups such as the Elks Veteran Dinner, Moose lodge and the Veterans Golf Tournament.
I retired in 2016 from the City of Clinton after 35 years. During those years, I’ve held various positions as a licensed waste water operator, licensed building inspector, Public Works Director and Community Development Director as well as the day to day operations of the Area Transportation Service.
I have working knowledge of all city departments. I have firsthand experience of fire operations as a Volunteer Firefighter (retired), city budgeting experience, economic development as well as experience in emergency management response in the areas of floods, tornado and building collapse.
I’ve worked with 7 Mayors, 5 City Administrators and numerous council members.
During my employment with the City, I have walked nearly every street in Clinton and am aware of the
condition of streets, sidewalks and dilapidated property conditions throughout.
I’ve heard so many concerns from citizens with the most of the concerns being dilapidated structures, trash, junk vehicles, unsafe sidewalks and dog issues.
I believe the City Council needs- to continue working towards retaining our employees by providing equipment, training and support as needed while offering competitive salaries.
During my years of service, I am proud to say I returned every phone calf and met with every person that reported an issue to me. If elected, you will receive a response regarding your issues. Your concerns will either be forwarded to the appropriate city department or council for some type of action or response.
I would be honored to serve Ward 1 as your Councilman and would appreciate your vote in the April 2nd election.
