McNack Medals At 2022 Nationals

Posted

Amitria McNack, a sophomore at CHS, wrestled at the USA Wrestling Nationals held in Fargo ND, July 16-22. She had to place in the State tournaments to qualify for the prestigious Nationals. The wrestlers at Nationals is a “Who’s Who” of the Nation’s Best (Champions and All-Americans). Two separate tournaments were held. One for the U16 High Schoolers. There were 64 talented girls in her 138 lb. bracket. Amitria did well but came up one win short of medaling. In an emotional phone call home, Amitria said she was going to wrestle hard to redeem herself and get a medal in the Juniors Division. The Juniors Division is for high school wrestlers age 17 and up including recent grads. In other words, Amitria was, as they say, wrestling up. What a challenge! There were 128 girls in her bracket. She won match after match, but was behind in the semi-final match 10-5. She fought back valiantly to win by a pin. Super exciting stuff. This put Amitria in the Championship match. She wrestled Skylar Hattendorf out of Massachusetts. Amitria came up short claiming 2nd place. So, Amitria is an All-American, ranked #17, in the Nation.
It is believed this is the first time a Clinton wrestler has attended and or placed at this National Tourney. This tournament started in 1971 with the younger wrestlers starting in 1986. Remember this is not an open tournament. Only the best of the best are invited.
I would also like to point out what a nice, humble, young lady Amitria is (off the mat, that is). She is a varsity cheerleader, ran varsity track, and is a member of the Student Council. A great young lady and a tremendous role model. Amitria’s proud parents are Tim and Sherry McNack.
