The first week of May is being highlighted for ELKS Youth Week. Mayor Carla Moberly and Henry County Commissioner, Jim Stone signed a proclamation at City Hall marking the occasion. The Clinton Elks Lodge is one of the largest and oldest organizations in Clinton with nearly 800 members which was chartered back in 1906. To celebrate this special week, the ELKS will be sponsoring a trip to Springfleld's Dickerson Park Zoo for over 200 special needs children from Clinton schools and also Calhoun, Lakeland, Montrose, & Osceola. This marks the 19th year that the ELKS have hosted a zoo trip. The ELKS also host a gourmet picnic lunch when the Kid's finish seeing the sights and sounds inside the Zoo. They also pay the fuel for the many school buses that transport the Kids to Springfield & also provide special T-shirts given out to each student. Soon the ELKS will award scholarships to high school seniors. The ELKS are second only to the U.S. Government in the amount of money it provides for scholarships each year. ELKS scholarships are measured in the millions of dollars annually. In mid May Clinton ELKS Lodge will award 6 scholarships to high school seniors. The ELKS and their members continue to make a difference as they support
our local youth and other programs throughout the year.
