Lady Cards Tame Wildcats

Posted

The 34th Girl’s Warsaw Basketball Tournament started Monday, Nov. 29 with four games. Non of the games were close as the seeding of the teams proved to be accurate. The #3 seeded Lady Cardinals took on the #6 seed Warsaw Wildcats. The game started balanced but the Lady Cards steadily pulled away. Score by quarters: 16-8, 19-7, 13-7 and 11-6 with the final score of 59-28 Cards. The Warsaw team used a platoon method subbing five at a time. The starting Cards, Paige Gillund, Briley Wishard, Riley Heerdink, Skyte Wilson and Mercedez Brown got help off the bench from Ava Potter, Hannah Campbell, Allie Cardwell and Allie Goucher. Potter coming off the bench led the team in scoring with 14. Potter’s, Wishard’s and Heerdink’s inside game was too much for the Lady Wildcats. The slashing quickness of freshman Wilson also put pressure on the Wildcats’ defense. Interestingly the Lady Cards did not make any 3 point shots and attempted very few. Warsaw made two 3’s. From the line Clinton made 11 of 16 (69%) vs Warsaw’s 8 of 13 (62%). The Lady Cards played a tough defense without getting into foul trouble. The Cards are 1-1 on the season. The Lady Cards will play the #2 seed, the El Dorado Lady Bulldogs, Wednesday at 6 p.m. This challenge will be a good indicator of how the Cards might fair vs the tougher programs.
