Lady Cards Tame Bulldogs

The CHS Lady Cards traveled to Odessa on Thursday, Jan. 6 to take on the 5-6 Lady Bulldogs. The game got off to a sluggish start with the score being 7-5 Lady Cards after the first quarter. The score at the break was 15-10 Cards. Turnovers were still plaguing the Cards but their defense kept them in the game. Defensively Mercedez Brown helped the Cards dominate the boards, Riley Heerdink blocked several shots and Skyte Wilson got her usual multiple steals.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs got off the porch and fought back stealing the lead 22-21 after the third quarter. The Lady Cards missed some key free throws and the momentum was clearing with Odessa. As often happens in basketball the fourth quarter was a major turn-around. The Cardinals’ shots started to fall and they made their free throws. The hard-charging Lady Cards outscored the Lady Bulldogs 22-7 in the fourth quarter led by Wilson’s nine points. Wilson scored 17 in the game and went 8 of 11 from the line. Briley Wishard found nine points. Odessa had a player foul out early in the fourth quarter and Wishard fouled out late. The final score was 43-29 Clinton. This win puts the Lady Cards at 5-7 on the season. Odessa was led by Levi Moody with 13 points. Team Stats: Clinton made one 3-pointer and went 16 of 26 from the line. Odessa made two 3’s and went 13 of 23. Ind. Stats: Heerdink (7,0,3/3), Brown (9,0,3/6), Wilson (17,1,8/11), Wishard (10,0,2/6). The Lady Cards play the 2-7 Sedalia Lady Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 12 on the road. Their next home game is the Clinton Tournament that starts on Jan. 24.
