Lady Cardinals Tennis Continues To Pickup Wins

CHS girls tennis traveled to Bolivar for a tournament On Wednesday! What a day! Each girl played 6 matches! We had 36 matches between 8 girls on 12 courts!
Six out of 8 of the girls walked away with medals.
Isabella Griffey won all 3 singles matches resulting in a 1st place finish in the number 2 rank, beating Willard 6-3; Bolivar 6-4 and Branson 6-2.
Katie Schaffer finished in 3rd place as #4 spot!
In the afternoon, ranked at #1, Carley Combs and Isabella Griffey placed 2nd overall in the doubles tournament. First match the girls came from behind and forced a 2 point win against Bolivar 7-5. With excellent serves and tough defense on the backcourt the girls beat Willard, 6-1. A tough loss at the end of a long day losing to a strong Branson team.
The doubles team of Katie Schaffer and Emily Barnes placed 3rd overall in doubles 2 rank. In the first match, they fell short in a 7 point tie-break against Willard after staying with them and tying 6-6 for the match.
Alexis Harvey and Taryn Gilbert placed 3rd overall as the #3 doubles team. They fell short against Bolivar and came back in the second match and won against Willard 6-2.

CHS varsity girls tennis swept the Center Yellowjackests 6-0 Thursday night in singles. Each of the girls won their matches as well as doubles.
The #1 ranked doubles team of Carley Combs and Isabella Griffey won 6-1. They showed strong net play and tough placement making their opponent move across the court!
The #2 ranked doubles team of Makenna Beasley and Emily Barnes Finished strong with a 6-0 win! They were strong with placing deep shots in the backcourt.
The #3 doubles team of Katie Schaffer and Alexis Harkey won 6-1 in doubles with consistent defense.
In singles action . . .
Carley Combs won 6-4 with long volleys back-and-forth and tough shots on the sideline. Her hustle to get to tough shots from the opposing team was evident.
Isabella Griffey won 6-1 with several aces with her serve! She played some tough shots at the net.
Makenna Beasely won 6-1 attacking the net and playing strong offense.
Emily Barnes won 6-2. Emily beat her opponent by being consistent with shots and forcing their mistakes.
Katie Schaffer won in a long match coming back 6-6 and then winning in a 7 point tie break 7-2. Her conditioning paid off and she was able to get deep shots consistently.
Alexis Harkey won 6-1 and had consistent serves and powered through the match.
Coach Combs is impressed with the athleticism the team has shown this early in the season. With the heat impacting practice times and conditioning the girls have shown dedication and resilience. The team travels to Warrensburg next on Tuesday afternoon.
