Lady Cardinals Split Week, Set Sights On District Tourney

Clinton softball picked up one last regular season win over Harrisonville last week, but dropped the season finale to Warrensburg.
They'll now turn their attention to the Class 3 District 7 tournament that gets underway this Thursday in Oak Grove.

CHS Softball were victorious against Harrisonville Varsity Wildcats 5-3 on Tuesday. Harrisonville Varsity Wildcats got on the board in the second inning after Mia Jackson singled, scoring one run. CHS Softball captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth after Corynn Sowers hit a sacrifice fly, and Briley Wishard doubled, each scoring one run. Wishard earned the win for CHS Softball. The righty allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking two. Olivia Quick stepped in the circle first for Harrisonville Varsity Wildcats. They gave up 11 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. CHS Softball accumulated 11 hits in the game. Wishard led CHS Softball with three hits in four at bats. Carmen Bohannan collected two hits for CHS Softball in four at bats. CHS Softball turned one double play in the game. Jaeda Hasam, Jackson, and Anjell Chiasson each collected one hit for Harrisonville Varsity Wildcats. Jackson, Chloe Jackson, and Chiasson each drove in one run for Harrisonville Varsity Wildcats.

Late Score Costs Lady Cards After Late Charge From Warrensburg

Thursday's game against Warrensburg Lady Tigers Varsity 2023 was a heartbreaker for CHS Softball, as they lost the lead late in a 9-8 defeat. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the sixth when Alexa Goodwin laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run. CHS Softball got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kenadie Austin singled, and Addison Little stole home, each scoring one run. Ripley Laws homered to center field, which helped Warrensburg Lady Tigers Varsity 2023 tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth. CHS Softball took the lead in the top of the fifth. An error scored three runs, to give CHS Softball the advantage, 5-2. Lady Tigers Varsity 2023 flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits to take a 8-5 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Aspen Osborn that drove in three. CHS Softball tied the game up in the top of the sixth thanks to two walks. CHS Softball tied the game at eight on a walk by Lexi Barnhart. Bridget Kellner earned the win for Warrensburg Lady Tigers Varsity 2023. They gave up four hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking seven. Briley Wishard started in the circle for CHS Softball. The right-handed pitcher gave up 12 hits and nine runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out 10 and walking two. Addison Markham and Austin each collected two hits for CHS Softball. Austin went 2-for-2 at the plate as the right-handed hitter led the team with one run batted in. CHS Softball had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Barnhart and Carmen Bohannan led the team with two bases on balls each. CHS Softball ran wild on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game.

The Lady Cardinals will wear the number 5 seed and face the number 4 seed Odessa Lady Bulldogs.
Other seeds for the tournament are as follows: (1) Holden, (2) Oak Grove, (3) Pleasant Hill, (6) Harrisonville, (7) St. Michael the Archangel, and (8) Notre Dame de Sion.
"We have a great opportunity in districts to go far, but just need to focus on the little things and keep our confidence up," said Clinton coach Sydney Snyder! "It is a blessing to coach these girls, and no matter what I am so proud of their hard work this season. We are not ready to be done, so you better believe we will show up on Thursday. Lets go cards!"
