Clinton High School is proud to announce it has selected Sandra Herrera as the head coach of the girls volleyball team.
Coach Herrera is currently a science teacher at Clinton High School, where she also served as an assistant volleyball coach last year.
In high school, Herrera was a multi-sport athlete, but since the 7th grade has had a special place in her heart for volleyball. After playing for four years in high school, she played on multiple intramural teams during college at the University of Central Florida.
Her love for the sport continued when she played for two years on the Women’s Air Force Team in Italy. While a student at the University of Central Florida, Coach Herrera earned a degree in Secondary Science Education with a Biology track.
“I’ve been a fan of volleyball ever since I was a little kid watching my dad play for the military,” says Coach Herrera. “We moved around a lot but a constant was always there, volleyball. My love for the sport grew more when I got the chance to travel and play. I am more excited than ever to bring the girls into a forever family. I hope whenever they feel like they are lost, they can find themselves on the court with their team, during and after high school.”
Activities Director, Kevin LaFavor is confident Coach Herrera is the right person to lead the CHS Volleyball program.
“With her enthusiasm and care for each student-athlete, Sandra has shown she has the ability to develop relationships. Aside from being a former athlete herself, she has coached volleyball in numerous settings in the state of Florida before moving to Missouri," LaFavor said. "Coach Herrera has a clear vision and competitive spirit that will continue to lead a growing program that is being established at the middle school level from Coach Johnson and her staff. The future is very bright for our volleyball program, and we are excited to see the levels it can reach.”
