HCMF: Did You Know That Music Can Help You Or Your Loved One?

Posted

Musical memory is preserved with people who have Alzheimer’s or dementia because the key areas of the brain that are linked to musical memory are relatively undamaged by the disease. While those that may not be able to understand verbal communication anymore can almost always recognize and respond to musical tunes. Music can help relieve stress, anxiety, agitation, and depression.
The Henry County Memory Fund Medicine of Music program can help Alzheimer’s and dementia patients with a prescription of their favorite music. We will provide your loved one with an iPhone and with customized music that the patient loves. If you know someone who would benefit from the power of music to help and would like to know more about our program, please contact Stephanie Brister at 660-351-0342.
And, don’t forget that the Henry County Memory Fund will be hosting our 10th Annual Big Purple Party! Please join us on May 4th 2024, at Hawthorn Bank’s parking lot at Old Country Club Park with registration at 9am and ceremony at 9:30. Join us as we honor our friends, family, and loved ones struggling with or who have lost those to Alzheimer’s or dementia. There will be giveaways and a ceremony to honor and remember loved ones followed by a walk to close the ceremony.
