The Clinton Daily Democrat stopped by the Henry County Commission September 21. The commission updated the press on some things happening with the county.
The commission will be investigating a water concern regarding 1200 Rd bridge. It was reported that there is a standing water issue at that location. Also, it was reported that the new monitoring system (for heat/electric) that was installed at the Henry County Detention Center is projected to save the county about $42,000 over the course of the year. Surveillance cameras are due to be installed at the courthouse (for the inside and outside of the building) in the next few weeks. A new air conditioning system is scheduled to be installed at the court house as well as they have been having problems with the old system's compressors for several years now.
Henry County Clerk Rick Watson said that absentee voting on the Clinton question started. The commission updated the press as to the tuck point project at the courthouse as well – it appears the renovation work will continue (hopefully) through cold weather.
County Treasurer Ann Julian stopped by the commission for a few moments. She reported that the recent back-tax sale had the smallest number of parcels in it: of the five parcels in the sale, one was sold.
The commission heard (and approved) a request from Clinton Main Street (Kaitlyn Wallen represented Main Street in the request) regarding a Fall Festival on the downtown square. The small festival will be presented by Circle By Hope and hopefully be on the same day as the Clinton Wine Stroll. Tentative scheduling would be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include activities such as a hay ride, bounce house, hay bale bowling, and a kettle corn truck – as well as some other vendors. There could be a pumpkin painting contest as well. She told the commission that Circle By Hope would be responsible for the set up (and clean up) and that there would be no alcohol for their event. “It is just an idea of bringing the community together,” she told the commission. She told the commission that she has not yet sought the city's approval but thought that she would be doing that in the near future.
