Calhoun UMC
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun United Methodist. We were pleased to gather in fellowship and love, to praise the Lord with church family. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call the "flock" to
10:00 Worship. Our service is live-streamed for face book.
We extend our sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Elsie Onwiler, Barbara Chapman, Opal Howard, and Jean Williams who passed into the arms of Jesus recently. Others on the prayer list: Jeff Dorris, Verna Walters, Sherrelyn Bell, Gary Hibbs, Debbie Holmes, Linda Alford, Earl Williams, Forrest Howard, Bill Fosnow, Iris Pinkston, Betty and Hal Ross, and Dave Burson. We continue to pray for the Ukrainian people and their fight for freedom, the lost, lonely and the least in this country. We pray for our church families and the welfare of each and every American.
As our world seems to be spinning out of control, for Christians we know God is still in control; Jesus said, when you pray, say "Give us each day, our daily bread." Yet we hoard our money, our time, and our love, ever wanting more and more. Jesus said, say to your Father in heaven, "Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us." Still in our personal lives we hold grudges, refusing to forgive, even when the debt is paid. Jesus said, say to the Holy One, "Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come." Yet at times we take your name in vain, and refuse to live each day in a Christian manner. Many times we find ourselves stumbling along this same path, sinners that we are. It's always helpful to join others for support and knowledge to try a different path. We thank our God for his forgiving love and for granting us another chance when we pray for his forgiveness. Should you find yourself in our same rut we invite you to join us for worship on Sunday morning.
You're cordially invited to Drake's Chapel UMC for our Fifth Sunday Singspiration at 6:00, there is also a Homemade Ice Cream Social at Windsor UMC beginning at 4:00 p.m.
We are always pleased to have guests for worship, come dressed as you are comfortable. Be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort, and we will be blessed by your presence.

We are all a part of the Body of Christ, God has placed us so we can work together in harmony. Each of you is a separate and necessary part of the whole body. We each have different abilities but we should desire the most helpful gifts and love is the greatest gift of all. Love will last forever while other gifts may fade away.
We thank each person who came to worship here today. We pray that you received a rich blessing by being here and that you will come again. See you in church?

Our God is great! His greatness is beyond our understanding. He reveals himself in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus we can know absolute love. Let us share that love with others. Rev. Gillard shared the message Apostles Creed: I Believe. The biblical text was Romans 10: 9 - 10. Our anthem was “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” played by Gay Smith.
With Jesus Camp behind us we will once again open our doors as a Cooling Center if there is a heat advisory for Henry County. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. A light lunch will be served.
Supplies of materials to make personal hygiene items for the “Little Girls in Africa” Project remain available in the church foyer. The Presbyterian Women appreciate your help in this yearly project.
Jesus Camp held here last week was once again a huge success. There were a total of 48 campers of elementary school age. The 5 camp counselors from Heartland Traveling Day Camps were assisted by 5 adult volunteers and 4 youth counselors from the Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church. The campers enjoyed bible study, music, crafts, activities and of course snacks. Campers enjoyed a day at the park on Thursday with a picnic lunch and swimming at the pool.

We will all agree, it has been really hot in Clinton the last few weeks. Yet, we are blessed that we do not live in some of the hottest spots in the world. Death Valley National Park is situated near the border of California and Nevada. Records show that on July 10, 1913, the temperature soared to 177.4 degrees F. In July 2018, the average temperature was 108.1 degrees F, with four continuous days of 127 degrees F. That almost makes our 95–100-degree weather sound cool! There is even a hotter place, according to the Bible. The Bible talks about Hell being down (2nd Peter 2:4 KJV) and indicates it will be hot (Matt 25:41 KJV). Some scientists have tried to estimate how hot Hell might be. We are told Hell is deep, in what we assume is our earth. The estimated core temperature of the center of the earth is between 9,000 and 11,000 degrees. Understanding this concept should make people think about their relationship with God. We are given choices, and they should be considered wisely.
Sadly, COVID seems to be on the uprise again. GVCC is saddened to have some of our numbers afflicted with this illness, including our minister’s family. Our prayers go to all that have fallen ill with this virus, wishing them a quick recovery. For some happy news, one of our own has officially retired from his work. A retirement reception will be held at the Elks Lodge for Dr. Ken Jones this Thursday, July 28, from 5-7 PM.
Due to quarantine, Bro James was unable to fill the pulpit, so Bro Tim graciously filled in. The message came from 1st Peter, Chapter 1. After giving a short history about the Apostle Peter, Bro Tim pointed out the word, “apostle,” means one who is sent forth. Peter was not only a disciple, but an Apostle. He was chosen to do this work. As Christians, we also have been chosen. We cannot save ourselves, so God provided a way to salvation by sending Jesus to this Earth. Thus, we must choose. We can do this through God’s grace by believing and having faith in Jesus and doing His will. The answer and solutions are very simple, but we must be the ones to take action, believing in Jesus and living according to His words.
Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton. Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30. Our Wednesday evening Bible study is suspended for the summer. Our minister is James McFarland (office phone # 660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find a link to access our Facebook page. We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.

Mt. Calvary
Apostolic Pentecostal
“Then They That Are In The Flesh Cannot Please God?"
Romans 8:8. (KJV)
We have to be prepared in life for what Satan will try to do. If he will deceive and confuse someone else, he will do the same to you. Satan can deceive Ministers and Pastors too.
It is important for each of us to know the scriptures for ourselves, because there are some scriptures that can be confusing and people can twist scripture.
When you study scripture on your own time, and attend Bible study, you learn the word. Get wisdom and understanding.
Beware of those who try to confuse you with scripture.
The enemy can make things sound enticing. This is why we need to learn to break down scripture for better understanding.
As Mark said, the spirit is ready, but the flesh is weak. Your spirit and your flesh fight one another. Flesh cannot please God. Flesh wants to do the opposite.
Ephesians 2:3. (KJV)
Flesh is the earthly part, craving lust and desires that do not please God because the flesh wars with the spirit. The flesh always lusts after those things that are not in alignment with God. It can be a change to control it.
Being close to God, having him dwell within you allows you to overtake the flesh. Holy Spirit will strengthen you and help you through the struggle.
You can’t make it in the kingdom of God doing what you want in the flesh. We are dead to sin when Christ is in us. Being joint heirs of God, we are in his family now and we have to obey his word.
Gal 5:16-17. (KJV)
When you obey the flesh you are in opposition to the the spirit. You need to choose whom you will serve. Either you are going to serve Satan or you are going to serve God. You can’t straddle the fence.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (KJV)
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.(KJV)
In 1 John it speaks of being in the flesh, that doesn’t mean you automatically go to hell. We are humans, we are flesh, but we have to fight the fleshly desires and lusts.
If you don’t understand scripture m, someone can convince you that being made flesh you go to hell, and that is not what the word says.
Gen 3:6. (KJV)
To desire is to crave, wish, king for. How did Eve allow Satan to deceive her? He told her she would gain wisdom if she ate the fruit. Why did she need wisdom? It was only her and Adam on the earth. The enemy persuaded her and her flesh could not resist the desire of wisdom.
Joh 6:52-58. (KJV)
Jesus did not mean that people would literally eat his body and drink his blood. This was symbolic of having communion.
There are people who would twist this scripture and confuse many people.
Joh 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? Some of the disciples who followed him left because of lack of understanding.(KJV)
Some scripture gets turned around and confuses people. There are people who will confuse you with scripture in an effort to control you. Know what the word of God is saying and walk in the spirit so you won’t war with the flesh. They that are in the flesh cannot please God.
God Bless.

Mt. Zion UMC
Pastor David’s message, “Being Righteous”, was referenced by an Old Testament reading from Genesis 18:20-32, and a New Testament reading from Colossians 2:6-15. These scriptures dwell on the concept of righteousness. Righteous is described as being morally right, justifiable, virtuous. In other words, being of excellent quality.
When we say something is righteous, it is righteous in the sight of God. It means one who has obeyed the laws, commands, and dictates of God. God found favor in Abraham because of his particular moral quality and willingness to trust God and follow the law of God.
Yet, as Christians, it is not through our great works we receive the Grace of God. Nor do we become righteous in the sight of God through our deeds alone, as in the age of the patriarchs. So, step one for the Christian is to have faith in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice and his resurrection. Step two is to stay rooted in Jesus Christ. This means to follow the new law—the New Covenant—established between Jesus and those followers who bear his name—Christians.
The New Law is this; Love your God with all your being, and love your neighbor as yourself. Our goal as Christians must always be to follow the path of righteousness. This is often a difficult path. It means choosing to do things differently than other people, living to a higher moral standard.
We serve a merciful God. A God who would have saved the morally lost town of Sodom for the sake of 10 righteous people. When we live as righteous examples—remaining rooted in Jesus—this helps encourage and bring others to Christ. So, let us constantly be righteous exemplars in a sinful world, loving our neighbor because of the great love Christ our Lord has for us. Amen!

Trinity Lutheran
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) composed and conducted hundreds of Cantatas and other pieces of sacred and classical music during his lifetime. Unfortunately, only 209 of these have survived.
Cantatas are musical selections performed during regular and special church services each week. Bach, who was a committed, lifelong Lutheran and had an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ, typically signed all of his compositions “Soli Deo Gloria,” which translates “To the Glory of God alone.”
As the director of music for Saint Thomas Lutheran Church in Leipzig, Germany for nearly 30 years, it was one of Bach’s responsibilities to write a new cantata each week! The cantatas were based on the liturgy readings for a particular Sunday, and were performed prior to the reading of the Gospel. For those who think church services are too long today, keep in mind that many of Bach’s Cantatas were over 30 minutes long!
In addition to church cantatas, Bach also composed, wrote and performed many, many other sacred cantatas and other orchestral musical pieces for weddings and funerals, congratulatory cantatas for secular events such as town council meetings, academic functions at the University of Leipzig, and for anniversaries and entertainment for nobility and society occasions.
It should not be overlooked that in his spare time, Bach was responsible for teaching Latin and music to students throughout the city of Leipzig each day. In addition, he somehow found time to become the premiere musician and organist in Europe. In fact, during his lifetime, Bach was much more famous as a harpsichord player and organist than as a composer. And, as has been mentioned before in this space, Bach was the father of 20 children!
There is no doubt that Johann Sebastian Bach was a very busy and productive man who loved God, had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, and was dedicated to the Lutheran Church. Praise God!

Come worship with us each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and be blessed. Today, Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We were thrilled to have a new baptism. Gary Vass and Randy Vogt collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor chad Pollett's sermon was from Titus3: 9-15. In this passage Titus was telling the Christians to avoid arguments, quarrels, and any foolish controversies because they prove useless. Titus said to warn any divisive person two times and if they don't heed their advice then stay away from them. Titus told the Christians to devote themselves to doing what is good so that they provide for their daily necessities and live productive lives. Good advice for all. Have a great week.

Valley Center United
This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
We are blessed to come and worship together at our church on the brow of the hill. We are surrounded by a beautiful prairie and glorious blue skies! Valley Center church began services 150 years ago and has had only 8 ministers serving as our Pastor. This is a year of celebration for us and a year of remembrance of those who came before us. Our history is long as we continue what others began so many years ago; to worship our Lord and be of service for those in need.
We thank Dane and John Gover for the wonderful guitar and violin music this morning! Good job!
We continue to pray for the Ukraine and it's people as they face unthinkable hardships and losses as they fight for everyone's democracy.
No matter what we say to Jesus, whether in speaking out loud or in silence, it is a prayer. It can be in a song of gratitude, before eating a meal , or anytime during our daily lives. When we pray, we need to look for God's presence and feel his power. Even during the times of our lives when it seems that there is only darkness, it is his light that gives us hope and vision
The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. His response was giving them the Lord's Prayer as their guide.
This powerful prayer was not given just for the disciples, this universal prayer, that was given to us by God, is one that we can memorize and say anywhere and anytime. It is a way of communication with God. It is the prayer that says what we all are asking for; to forgive us, lead us not into temptation and give us our daily bread.
It is not a prayer that stays just within the walls of the church, we can carry it with us in our hearts and minds out into the world, wherever we go. It is our daily prayer that sustains and encourages us. We should pray often and hard as we can!
Give thanks to him, bless his name! For the Lord is good and his steadfast love endures forever!
