Calhoun UMC
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun United Methodist. We were pleased to gather in fellowship and love, to praise the Lord with church family. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call the "flock" to
10:00 worship. Our service is live-streamed for face book.
our Sympathy and Christian love are extended to the family and friends of Cheryl Davis and Rev. Don Brown who passed into the arms of Jesus recently. Others on our prayer list: Lyle and Linda Browning, Bob and Brenda Sell, Chrisey Berney, Sara and Sandy Veach, Marie and Cliff Miller, Iris Pinkston , Linda Alford, Betty and Hal Ross, and Dave Burson. We continue to pray for the Ukrainian people and their fight for freedom, the lost, lonely and the least in this country. We pray for our church families and the welfare of each and every American as our economy continues to.spin out of control.
Joys to celebrate: We are enjoying this cooler weather, if you are of a certain age; this time in May is referred to as blackberry winter; the time when blackberries bloom. It happens every year but in our hurried life-style we tend to forget from year to year. Many are enjoying fresh strawberries at this time also. How fortunate we are that God doesn't leave the changing of the seasons up to us. Another joy this week was to experience the large crowd at Calhoun Cemetery for the grave side service for our friend Ms. Cheryl. For those who took the time to know Cheryl, under a sometimes rough exterior was a talented, kind, and loving spirit which not everyone was privileged to experience. How well I remember when Alvin and Cheryl's daughter passed away we found out there was a need for a place for the family to gather for lunch following .the funeral. Our fellowship hall was .offered and was gratefully accepted. During the course of the lunch the restroom overflowed and ran right in front of the food counter to the basement drain. We were rightly embarrassed, for the family it was no big deal. Today Pastor Margie spoke to us about being a Christian. Our job is to lead others to become believers, a large part of that job is to be the comforter for others as God is our comforter in our time of need. Blessings until next week.
We are always pleased to have guests for worship, come dressed as you are comfortable. Be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort, and we wilI be blessed by your presence.

Pastor Randy Shipman welcomed the congregation & Deacon of the week, Russ Wilson offered the opening prayer. The Scripture readings for the morning was John 14:23-29 &
Psalm 67. Pastor Randy recognized Robert & Nancy St. George in celebration of their 49 Wedding Anniversary. In the message Pastor Randy used 1 Corinthians 11 :2-16 to remind us that Apostle Paul taught the early church that they were to do everything for the glory of God & to follow Jesus. Paul also describes a relationship men & women have when they lack honor in worshiping God. In our process of worship we are always to honor God.

How blessed are we that Jesus has promised to be with us always! This promise gives us hope. Celebrate His eternal promises and be grateful for all that he has given to you. Our hand chimes choir delighted us with the anthem “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” under the direction of Mark Smith. 2 Timothy 2: 15 was the text Rev. Nancy Gillard chose for her message titled Taking Care of the Scripture.
The shorts and dresses for the “Little Girls in Africa” mission project have been sized, folded, packed and shipped to Michigan. A total of 7 pairs of shorts for boys and 137 dresses for girls were lovingly handmade by our talented sewers. A big shout out of thanks goes to everyone who furnished fabric, trim, and their sewing skills. The three full boxes will be shipped to villages in Malawi, Africa where some little boys and girls will be delighted with their new clothes.
The Presbyterian Women are sponsoring the collection of cake mixes for the Samaritan Center’s Food Pantry. All brands, flavors and sizes of mix are needed. Donations will be collected throughout June. Help make a difference for someone in need by donating to this effort. Your help is appreciated.

According to a 2021 survey, approximately 22% of United States citizens attend church weekly. Another 30% attend irregularly. Many people that do not attend a church may have some very mistaken ideas about attending church. There was a gentleman who was trying to invite his neighbor to church. He did not want to jeopardize the chance to witness to this neighbor by appearing too “religious.” He finally asked the neighbor, “Where do you think sinners go?” The immediate reply was, “To Hell.” “No,” the man said. “They go to church.” The neighbor did not know what to say. Think about that for a moment. Christians know they are sinners (Romans 3:23). Remember, a church is not a palace for saints, but a hospital for sinners.
Last Sunday was a special day, with mixed emotions. We honored our interim minister and his wife, Elmer and Elaine Fuller, with a farewell luncheon. Bro Elmer has been filling our pulpit for over a year. While we are sorrowful that we will no longer see the Fullers, we also are rejoicing to have our new minister, James McFarland, and his family in Clinton now. We look forward to a long and successful journey with the McFarlands.
Bro Elmer’s last message came from the sixth chapter of Daniel. By this time in Daniel’s life, the Persian-Medes had conquered the Babylonians, and King Darius was on the throne. Because Daniel was a favorite of Darius, the other officials plotted for his demise. Urging the king to sign a decree that no other god could be worshiped, except the king, they knew Daniel would continue to pray to the living God. The penalty was to be thrown into the lion’s den, which is what happened to Daniel. After a sleepless night, Darius rushed to the den and called out to Daniel, who was unharmed. God had sent angels to seal the lions’ mouths. The corrupt officials had used Daniel’s faith to attack and try to destroy him. The corrupt officials were then thrown into the den, with no angels to defend them. Daniel’s faith saved him. It is a lesson for all of us. All of us should “dare to be a Daniel.”
Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton. Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30. We have a Wednesday-evening Bible study at 7:00 PM. Our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find links to access our Facebook page and past YouTube sermons. We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.

“Living Water”
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. (KJV)
Water is an important source of survival. In biblical times, Jacob’s well was popular. For Jesus to be at the well alone at the appointed time with the Samaritan woman was in God’s plan. The disciples went into town for food. There would be no distractions.
Though Jews had nothing to do with Samaritans back then. Whenever Jesus spoke to others, he did so without bias and made his point clear.
What Jesus said to the woman stayed with her. What he stated in 4:10 she needed to know, as we do in present day. He spoke of “Living Water” versus “Physical Water”.
It says in Joh 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (KJV)
Joh 4:15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. (KJV)
She was aware on something greater when she asked him to give her this water.
It says in Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
The gift of the Holy Spirit is yours for the asking. Once you have that living water flowing through you; you don’t go to the old places you used to hang out, say those curse words you used to say, do those things you used to do.
God will change your heart to a forgiving heart. The anger will not come as fast as it used to. He will give you a new mindset to serve him. We don’t know how many days we have left down here on this earth.
Don’t let anyone get in your way of entering the kingdom of God. If it says to do something in the Bible, we need to do it. If we follow his word we will not go wrong on judgement day. God Bless.

Pastor David’s message, “Ther Majesty of God”, was taken from Psalm 67, and Revelation 21:10, 22:1- 5. Have you ever stopped to just dwell on the pure, raw majesty of God? We truly serve a majestic and awesome God—a God that is beyond our understanding and comprehension. God is infinitely greater than we sometimes think. No matter where we go or who we sit in worship with, we are all one big Christian family. As the Psalmist writes; ‘Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.”
God is way bigger than we could ever imagine. Recently the Event Horizon telescope captured an image, for the first time, of the super massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. This thing is so huge that our sun could fit into it more than 3,000 times and the earth could fit into our sun 330 times! Astronomers estimate that there are more than one billion stars in the Milky Way and that there are more than one billion galaxies! How could you bear witness to this awesome act of creation and not believe that an infinite and infinitely powerful Designer lay behind it?
What kind of God do we imagine? Perhaps God is far greater, more incredible, more majestic than we ever thought. We serve a majestic God that dwells among the billions of galaxies in the cosmos, has named every star, and He knows every hair on your head! Our God is a God that goes beyond all our understanding and loves us so much that He sent His very Presence, the Word, our Redeemer Jesus Christ, to die that we might stand reunited with God in the beautific vision described in Revelation21. The second coming where the New Jerusalem will descend from the heavens and all pain, all suffering, all evil will be blotted out from the world and we will be reunited with those gone before and there God will be our God and we will be His people as we drink from the crystal stream flowing from the heavenly throne Amen!.

Blessings were had by all as we gathered to worship the Lord. Today, Pastor Chad rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Ms. Charlene Orr filling in for Dixie Collins playing piano. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
We were excited and blessed to have Terry and Carolyn Routon, missionaries to Haiti, to share their progress and work. The Routon's have been missionaries to Haiti for over 20 years. Haiti is the poorest country in the Southern Hemisphere. Voodooism and Catholicism was the main religion in Haiti. The Routon's planted the first church in Northwestern Haiti and now there are over 300 Christian churches. By distributing Bibles, sharing the Gospel, and discipling converts to be Pastors, Christian religion is making an impact. They feel everyone can be obedient and serve God in some capacity no matter their situation. Be kind, help someone, and have a great week.

We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us on Sunday morning!
What a beautiful day to come and worship here in our church at the brow of the hill! The prairie flowers are blooming and the birds are singing! There is peace and joy here today!
We send our love and birthday wishes to Doris Jean Neuenschwander! We are happy to report that John Gover is feeling much better! We had a special offering today in support of the people of Ukraine. We pray for peace for all of God's people.
There is a difference between anger and hatred. We can talk about being angry about something, but hate grows with the disinformation from what we read or hear and too often it is never checked for accuracy. Hatred is based on ignorance and fear and is a catalyst for some sort of action.
We often speak about the glory and power that comes from God, but sometimes the world gives us other issues to address. Hatred, evil and racism are important tasks to be addressed.
The narratives throughout the Bible tells us of people who didn't get along. One example was of Jacob and Esau; brothers who fought and hated each other for years. Jacob lived in fear of his brother and that fear carried on into the next generation.
We have also inherited some of those fears. If "they" hated them, I will too and it goes on down through the generations.
Can we help to end this ignorance and fear? Has God asked us to do this which seems almost impossible? As people of faith, these are important questions to ask.
We should all search for the truth, even when it may be uncomfortable. God has given us the resources to overcome our fears and the courage to seek the truth. The Holy Spirit surrounds us with the strength to find hope and goodness. All of our fears will be set aside so we can push forward and say what needs to be said and do what God expects us to do.
We need to focus on the seemingly impossible task of bringing an end to hatred and bring equality and justice into this world. Do this for today and for future generations to come. In Jesus' Holy name, Amen.
