Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Mr. Tom rang the church bell at 9:45 a.m. to call our community to worship.
We extend our sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Herb Seaton who passed into the arms of Jesus this week others on our prayer list include 2 year old Vivian Puckett, parents and grandparents, Jerry Reed asked for prayers for friend Steve and wife who are cancer victims of the Camp Lejeune disaster, Amber and Patrick Dittmer and baby daughter, Barbara Sales, Millie Redding, Rev. Jackson and Sondra Short, Patty Dump, and Dave Burson. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: All were pleased for the Chocolate Chip cookies Carol Lane made and shared with the pre-church fellowship this morning. As our children were absent today Mr. Steve took the offering while Mr. Tom lit the altar candles, one of several things the youngsters faithfully take care of and someone didn’t think of; at the right time. But all is well that ends well. We were provided with another gorgeous morning to gather and worship the Lord. Special music: “The Secret Place” by Jerry Reed, acacpella. We thank Jerry for sharing his talent. Ms. Verna also provided special music “Can I Help Pour out the Rain” on CD by Buddy Jewell; our thanks to Verna for sharing. Jerry Reed is from Sedalia and new to Calhoun Community Church. He complimented the congregation this morning as being welcoming, open, and friendly to new comers. We were pleased to hear his kind words and give God all the glory as we try to be the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in this community and sometimes beyond.
Thought for the week: Follow moderation in all things, except family, care for the land, and concern for friends and neighbors. In these matters be excessive.
Should you be looking for a place to feel the love of God, come by for a visit, dress as you are comfortable, bring the youngsters and be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort? We are a Concerned and Praying non-denominational Church. We will be blessed by your presence.

Drakes Chapel UMC
There are signs of Spring everywhere! God led our forefathers to this beautiful countryside back in 1835. Drake’s is the oldest church in Henry County. A camp meeting amid a grove of oak trees was the beginning of what would be a long- lasting place of worship. Drake’s Chapel UMC is thriving still. Praise be to God and the founders, and especially to those today who continue to be faithful to this holy place.
We were pleased to have visitors on Sunday. Drake’s is always excited to open its doors to all who are looking for that special place of worship. Looking for a place to call home. One of our visitors was a furry four-legged friend. Miss Baylee was so well behaved and found love among the congregation.
Pastor Margie’s message was from Mark 8:31-38. It was when Jesus told Peter to take up his cross. Jesus knew his fate and what His Father had called upon Him to do. He instructed Peter to continue to do God’s work and pick up his cross as well. Pastor Margie reminded us that we all should take up our crosses as we journey to the place where our Savior died for us. It is time for all of us to do as Jesus told Peter, our burdens will be lighter and our faith renewed.
Our Lenten study continues this week as we study how the crucifixion may have affected Simon Peter. This study “The Third Day” by Tom Berlin dives into the experience of many of those around Jesus during his last days. We gather at the home of Pearl Combs each Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Easter will be here before we know it and as Pastor Margie’s sermons will take us closer to Easter Sunday and the crucifixion, let us strive to be the hands and feet of our Master each and every day. We invite you to join us any Sunday in person or on Facebook live. Worship begins at 9:00. Our beautiful chapel is located 5 miles east of Clinton off Hwy 52.

First Baptist
On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered a message titled “God’s Plan for Reaching the Next Generation”. While our kids may know that we aren’t perfect, and though we may feel hopeless to stop the culture drift, we’re all in this together. How do we embrace God’s plan? First, we must recognize Him as our one and only God. Then, we should remember that His greatest commandment is to love Him with all our hearts and minds. When we delight in the Lord, His commands are not burdensome. In all that we are, let us trust Him in all we do, keeping His commands on our hearts. When we love Him completely, we have powerful spiritual influence. We should continually impress God’s truth on the hearts of our children & grandchildren. We are also called to take what God is doing in our homes elsewhere. God’s plan for discipleship is rooted in the creation of families. Are we discipling what is most important? God’s vision for the next generation involves, not only the home, but also the local church and community. We are all the family of God! Parenting is hard, but we are better together! Let us revive families and community to be world changers for Jesus! As a local church, let us equip each other to better our spiritual influence!
Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm at the Vansant location for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups. Do you have burdens and questions? Is your life lacking the health and strength for service? Because we are such stubborn people we want to know all the answers. We find it hard to place our trust in Jesus. And yet, that is exactly where our trust needs to be. When we truly encounter Christ our hearts will rejoice at his kindness and love. New life is possible in Jesus; our hope comes from him.
This week’s anthem “Come As You Are” by Crowder, Maher, and Glover was beautifully delivered by Gay Smith. Rev. Nancy Gillard used scripture Luke 5: 1 – 11 for the message Decisions Along the Way.
The pudding and jello collection for the Samaritan Center has filled the shelves in the foyer and has come to an end. These donations support families in Henry County. Thank you for caring.
100 plus colorful jump ropes have been completed and are available for viewing in the foyer. These will be added to the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas child boxes later in the year. The ladies are also beginning another mission activity. This yearly project involves the construction of hygiene products for young ladies in Africa. Sewers are needed and welcomed. If you are willing to help, items can be found in the foyer to complete your project. Be sure to ask one of the PW ladies for assistance if needed.

Additional Scriptures: Isaiah 55:11, Matthew 14:3-9, Philippians 1:9-11, Colossians 1:9-14
Mat 3:7-9
We need to continue to bear fruit for the kingdom of God. Know the word of God so we are doers of the word.
Mat 12:32.
We must be careful that we do not blasphemy the Lord’s name. Some people speak careless about the Holy Spirit.
Mat 12:33.
The fruit of our spirit is what the Lord is speaking of.
People ask for things of God but carry no fruit in their spirit. We need to return the love to God that he gives us. It is two-way.
The Lord wants to see our faith. We are to love God’s people as we are his creation. We can’t be a friend of God if we do not have love in our hearts for others.
(John 15:12-17)
If we do what is right God will appropriately reward us. We did not choose God, he chose us.
Isa 57:19.
The peace of God works beyond our understanding. God has it under control.
Galatians 5:22-25 outlines the peace we should have.
If you don’t have faith you are lacking. We are to walk in all of the fruit of the spirit. People in the world are ignorant of what the fruit is. It is up to us to demonstrate by our actions how Christians should walk.
Spirit and behavior.
Allow God to direct you in hearing prophesy. We need discernment that what we hear is of God versus self.
We should witness for the Lord. It is hard to do this when people reject the word. They are rejecting God instead of you.
We should strive to live for him no matter what age we are. He is vast and we will never stop learning from him.
(Colossians 1:9-14)
Psa 92:13-15.
Being planted in the house of God we grow as we listen to his word.
When we are hard-hearted the word doesn’t always produce what we think.
Things happen though, to hearts that hear.
When we pray we should expect things to come to pass. It takes faith for us to do what God has placed before us to do.
Psalms 1:3.
As long as you are where God wants you to be you will bring forth fruit and prosper.
The word is our fertilizer. It gets our heart right and as the word is planted it will take root. God Bless.

Urich Baptist
Warm weather lifted our spirits as we gathered at 10:30 a.m. for worship service. Clint Keeney rang the church bell.
Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. Jim Kelsay and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from 1Corinthians2: 9-17. After Jesus ascended to heaven he sent the Holy Spirit to come into all who believe in Him. God is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and is the power in our lives. The Holy Spirit gives us understanding, intercedes for us, guides us, sanctifies us, and gives us the power to overcome adversities.
What a huge gift we get when we have faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Have a great week.

Valley Center United
What a beautiful day to come and worship in our church at the brow of the hill! The prairie meadow surrounding our church has an early hint of green and the skies were so blue!
We were excited to have Debbie Ferguson, Jim Journey and Randy Polson, all members of the County Clair Band, who shared their musical talent and played for us here this morning at Valley Center! Rev Dane joined them with his guitar! We surely missed our dear friend John Gover and his fiddle playing. He loved being a part of this band.
We wish Dylan Wirsig a very happy birthday! We thank Donna Hughes for being our Sunday morning greeter, liturgist and cleaning the church for the month of February. We thank Karen and Andy Lasswell for leading Lent service last week and Karen and Jim Switzer for sharing the Lent message this week.
The Bible tells us many stories of sins from power and uncontrollable desire.
There are times when we all wish that we hadn’t done or said something. Oftentimes we try to act bigger and better than others. We may manipulate situations to try and make them what we insist them to be. When we see people in need of help, do we say or think that “they” need to try harder and they wouldn’t be in the terrible situation that they are in?
Sin separates us from God. Those kinds of thoughts, words and actions are against God. It is never right to blame or judge others for the very same offenses that we ourselves commit against God.
What is our own response about sinning? Redemption happens when we ‘right-a-wrong’. Awareness of what we do, what we think and how we react is how others see us. We are to love, care and help those in need and not judge them ‘why’. It is then, through repentance, that we find the grace and love of Christ.
Almighty God, give us the strength, courage, vision and faith that we might always choose that which is good, right and just in your eyes. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
