Trinity, Rockville, and Mt. Zion United Methodist Churches had messages on Christ as the good shepherd. We serve a God that loved us so much that he has persistently pursued us since the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden. The good shepherd remains with his flock, never abandoning them, protecting them, and encouraging them. Never allow fear and doubt to separate you from the love of God. For Christ came, died, and returned from the dead that all might have the opportunity to celebrate life eternal. Christ is our good shepherd who will help us through the struggle of life. As Jesus declares “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (Jn 10:11). We hope that you will come and worship with us! See you soon!

Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Mr. Tom rang the church bell to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
We extend our sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Harley Rhoades; others on our prayer list: Sondra Short, Martha & Betty Hibbs, Jerry Reed, and Dave Burson; Debbie Joy and the McNeely family as they travel home from vacation, the war in Israel and Ukraine, college protesters, our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: We all enjoyed the homemade chocolate chip cookies shared by Carol Lane for prechurch fellowship this morning. Ms. Barbara lit the altar candles and Mr. Tom served as usher in the McNeely children’s absence. We received 7+ inches of rain this weekend, our cup runith over; an example, that we should think long and hard about what we pray for; and a reminder it’s better to stay out of God’s business. We were pleased to sing Happy Birthday to Harold Dump Sr. this morning and extend wishes for many more. Shelby praised a friend for bringing gas when he ran out on the road. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church we try to have a little fun as well as Praise the lord during our church experience.
Today Rev. Short’s topic was “How do we relate to others.” We learn in church how to interact with others, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you, love your neighbor as yourself.” The generations have been influenced by the culture of our nation. Christians are needed in our world now more than ever, as human intolerance runs rampant. What can we do? We have the Bible, the church, and each other to influence others. We can share these things with those in need in our community. It’ easy to ignore those who need help, Christian translates “little Christ” or Christ like. Our job is to
. recognize; not to avoid those who are seeking a new life in Jesus Christ. We all have experienced miracles in our lives that cause us to believe.
We invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable. Plan to receive a blessing for your effort, bring the youngsters and we will be blessed by your presence.
Thought for the week: “To many folk go through life running from something that isn’t after them.”

On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered his 2nd message in the series, ‘Jesus Calls’, titled Called to Live Surrendered”. Jesus not only says “Believe in Me”, but He also says “Follow Me”. He calls us to deny ourselves and to take up our cross. Pastor Pat described three ways we may fully follow Jesus. First, we are to deny self and surrender by saying no to ourselves and saying yes to Christ. Even the Bible recognizes that denying self is a struggle between our sinful flesh and the Holy Spirit within us. Second, we are to take up our cross. This means we should follow God’s will, rather than our own. Third, we must follow Jesus. When we obey Him, He transforms us. Jesus has never saved a life He didn’t change. His grace is free, and He calls us to be a living sacrifice. When we live a surrendered life, we will not waste what He has loaned us to invest. When we recognize that all we have is His, we begin to become more like Him. Only what is done in Christ will last, so we should work to align our priorities with His. Everything we have in this life doesn’t matter if we lose our soul. Everyone is invited to come, no matter what they’ve done, and He will enable us to follow Him. Either we are His or He wants us to be His. The more we surrender to Him, the more like Him we become.

Following the celebration of baptism and a time of powerful worship, Pastor Pat Findley delivered the 3rd message in his ‘Jesus Calls’ series titled “Called to Know and Grow”. He began by illustrating the importance of training when simply trying hard isn’t enough. This is also true for spiritual growth. When we train ourselves through prayer, studying His Word, and seeking to be like Jesus in every moment, we can have peace beyond all understanding. Pastor Pat described this peace as rest in salvation, which we receive by knowing and growing in Christ. We all carry spiritual burdens because of sin, which will take us farther than we want to go, cost us more than we want to pay, and keep us longer than we want to stay. Jesus recognizes our burdens and offers us peace through faith. Following rules and doing good deeds is never enough. Salvation is about knowing what God has done. We are saved by trusting in Jesus Christ. He gives us rest and teaches us to follow Him. We can live with daily peace in our hearts when we align our life with His. Bring to Him your burdens and He will give you rest in salvation! When we follow Christ, we receive strength through the Holy Spirit! Choose to know Jesus and grow to become more like Him!

The Lord will restore your soul and provide abundantly for your needs even in the midst of hardships and turmoil. No Jesus, no peace. Know Jesus, know peace. Rev. “Hold On to Your Gift”
The book of Acts is the foundation of why we have the belief that we do. This is when the Spirit of the Lord comes, and where we received the power of the promise from Jesus.
This promise of the gift of Holy Spirit has more power and authority than we could ever imagine.
Act 2:1-13.
The people in attendance were in awe to hear the Galatians speaking in their tongues. Others were critical. We often mock and criticize what we don’t understand, especially if we think we should be in the know.
Prophesy was fulfilled when God’s spirit poured out on those who would receive it in the name of Jesus for the repentance of sins.
The promise is for you and your children and for those far off. We are in the last days, we are the “far off” generation. God is not slack in his promises.
Some people don’t understand tongues. They will accept that Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection, and that he came and sat at a table with his friends, but will call speaking in another language witchcraft. It isn’t witchcraft, and there is nothing creepy about the Holy Spirit. It is a gift from God.
Peter addressed the crowd to inform them that the people speaking in tongues had not been drinking wine. He addressed with them what they knew and made reference to the Old Testament when Joel prophesied about sons and daughters who would prophesy.
Prophesy is what God has to say to us, for us to repent, to prepare us, and warn us so we are better disciples in Christ. What Peter taught; repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus, was taught to him and the other disciples by Jesus Christ.
You will know when you receive the gift because you will speak in other tongues. As humans, we have no power over Satan, but we do have power when Holy Spirit dwells in us.
God gave us this gift to be overcomers. It is for all of us. Don’t let people take your gift from you. Satan doesn’t want you to have it because it is powerful. It gives us power to rebuke him! Walk steadfast in your gift. God Bless.

After a stressful night of severe storms the faithful once again gathered for worship service.
Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Pastor Steve Sowell on his birthday. We also rejoiced with Pastor Steve and wife Lisa on their 28th wedding anniversary. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from 1Peter 3: 1-22.
This passage describes how a man and wife in marriage are supposed to act and live.
The foundation of our lives is family. We are to live in an understanding way, to make and foster our relationships, be sensitive to needs, be humble, sympathetic, and nurture Christ’s love so our prayers will not be hindered. Respect and kindness go a long way always.
Have a blessed week.

Valley Center United
We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am.
Next week on the first Sunday, we will have a Donut and Coffee Break fellowship time after church services. Jim and Karen Switzer will be the hosts this month. It will most certainly be a fun and delicious time to gather with friends!
Today marked the 36th year of Rev. Dane being our minister at the Valley Center Church. We are so grateful for all of his love, great faith and dedication to our church and for our congregation over the many years. He is our preacher, teacher and friend.
We were welcomed on this wonderful Sunday morning by Dylan and Taryn Wirsig. Isaac Neuenschwander lit the altar candles and the congregation sang, “I love to tell the Story” to begin our worship service.
Does God put us in places that we need to be? The answer is yes! We all have witnessed many times in our lives when God “snatched” us up from our comfort zone and puts us in a completely different place. It is often nothing like we had envisioned and we may even wonder how did I get here to this point? Is this really where I need to be? But God knows why we are there. He has a great plan for us. Those new places can change our priorities into wonderful opportunities to bring hope, encouragement and God’s amazing love to others.
And when God reaches out and lifts us up, he puts us in a place to do good things! We should embrace those changes and boldly step up and be the person that God wants us to be!

Dear Lord, help us to live out God’s will to love and to speak up for those who have no voice and ensure justice for those who are so unfairly being persecuted and abused. Amen
