Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church, our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming Guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Tom Colwell rang the church bell in Tucker’s absence at 9:45 a.m. to call our community to worship.
We continue to lift up friends, neighbors, and relatives in need of prayer Amber and Patrick Dittmer and baby daughter, Luke Joy, Barbara Sales, Millie Redding, Rev. Jackson and Sondra Short, Patty Dump, and Dave Burson. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: Tom and Steve filled in for our youngsters in lighting the altar candles and taking the collection. We were pleased and excited that Sondra Short our pastor’s wife was able to be with us today. Other guests were Jerrene Harrelson and Dalton Conner. Special music included, “Oh What a Savior,” by our Ms. Verna, and Tom Colwell shared a song, “Ivory Palaces,” acacpella. We are thankful for the continued mild days to enjoy in mid-winter. Debbie Joy reported that grandson Luke Joy, continues to improve following emergency surgery last week. Sue Lesmeister expressed her joy of the feeling of belonging and happiness she has found by being a part of the church family here. One can feel the love of God, when you step in the door. The Chiefs Football Team was well represented by many in the congregation wearing Chief’s shirts made by Debbie Joy. “Go Chiefs.” Harvester’s was well attended this week at Calhoun with nearly 160 families participating.
Thought for the week: With God’s love, we can face and go through anything! Nothing comes into the life of a Christian without first passing through God’s filter of love.
Should you be looking for a place to feel that love come by for a visit, dress as you are comfortable, bring the youngsters and be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort. We are a Concerned and Praying non-denominational Church. We will be blessed by your presence.

Drakes Chapel UMC
This Sunday was Transfiguration Sunday. A time when it was truly revealed that Jesus was the Messiah by His Father. The time when the disciples could hear and witness the journey that Jesus would take and end at the cross.
A story from Pastor Margie’s sermon was so inspiring to know how others express their love of the Lord when they hear and see God at work. In big and little things. Shouting Glory!! Giving all the glory to our Lord and Savior. How do you show the Lord that you hear him and strive to share the Good News? Pastor Margie stressed the importance to listen. We all may not be able to say we have heard the Lord speaking to us, but it is those nudges from Jesus that leads to know He is directing us to be his hands and feet in this world.
Ash Wednesday service will be held at 6:00 at Drake’s Chapel. This is the Holy time when we begin our journey to the cross. All are invited to attend and share this time with our church family.
Bible study will start on Wednesday, February 21st. The topic will be “The Third Day “, authored by Tom Berlin. Pearl Combs has graciously offered to host the study in her home. We will gather at Pearl’s home at 6:00 for those interested.
We would be remiss not to mention all the red in our sanctuary on Sunday. There may have been a few 49ers present, but Chief’s Kingdom was surely in the majority. The anticipation of the game was all the chatter before church. Patrick Mahomes and our Chiefs no doubt ended our Sunday evening making so many fans exhausted and thankful that another championship would come back to Kansas City. Prayers were answered that no one was injured and that the game would be played with a spirit of good sportsmanship.
At Drake’s Chapel every Sunday is a celebration. Worshiping together as a church family and bringing the spirit of Jesus to light in our little chapel in Henry County. We would love for you to join us any Sunday at 9:00, if not in person on Facebook live, just look for Margie Briggs. You will find us 5 miles east of Clinton off Hwy 52. Just look for the sign on the highway.

On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered a final message in his two-part series, The Passive Pancreas, titled ‘Many Gifts, One Mission’. Pastor Pat opened with a question to consider: How would Jesus walk the streets today to accomplish the mission of loving people into a growing relationship with Him? Jesus said, “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father-the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father-He will testify about Me” (John 15:26). Jesus Christ displayed all spiritual gifts. A spiritual gift is a special purposeful ability for building up the body of Christ to advance the mission of Christ. It is more than obeying God’s commands and not the same thing as natural talent or ability. A “grace gift” is given by God at the moment of salvation. To find our spiritual gifts, we should guard our hearts and trust Him. Our gifts are often revealed while we are in motion. Spiritual gifts are intentionally diversified, and no one gift is more important than another. Together, we are better than we could ever be alone!

It is a good thing to start your week worshiping God. He is a God of mercy and justice. He fills us with his promise. Worship Him, listen and believe the good news of the gospel. Proverbs 14: 23, 21:25 and 2 Timothy 4:4-7 were the scripture verses selected by Rev. Nancy Gillard as she delivered the message Passing the Baton. Our hand chimes choir performed the anthem “My Life Flows on in Endless Song” arranged by Michael Ryan. Following the worship service our congregation gathered in Fellowship Hall to honor our long time financial secretary Mary Hubbard who has resigned her position. We thanked and honored Mary for her many dedicated years of service.
Collection continues of pudding and gelatin mixes for the Samaritan Center. February 25th will be the last Sunday for accepting donations. The Presbyterian Women gathered Tuesday, February 13 at 1:30 pm to continue jump rope work and to prepare materials for the yearly hygiene project for young girls and women in Africa.
Practice continues each Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 pm for the newly formed community choir. Open to the community, this choir is being led by Mark and Gay Smith in Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church. A good sized group has assembled.
Have you been thinking about what you could do to improve your balance and strength? If so, Tai Chi classes are for you. Each Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 am you will find a class being held here in Fellowship Hall. Do something nice for yourself. Come join a class.
A spirit of love and kindness can be found within the doors of First Presbyterian Church. You will be welcomed by friendly, loving people. If unable to attend in person, the worship service is available online at our website: fpcclintonmo.net. where you will also find a monthly newsletter and calendar of happenings.

Mt. Calvary Apostolic Pentecostal
“Get Converted and Be Ready”
Luke 22:31-33.
To be converted is to change into another form. Having to change.
Two good examples are Tadpoles transform into frogs and caterpillars transform into butterflies.
Isa 1:2, 1:4, 1:9-11, 1:15.
Those people were so bad that he told them they were as bad as the people in Sodom and Gommorrah’s day.
It says in Isa 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil.
God is always willing to convert you to something else.
Isaiah was among those in Isaiah 6:5
Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Isa 6:6-7.
Isaiah was purged from the unclean lips.
The disciples were talking about who was the greatest. However, no one has converted yet. (Luke22:24-27)
Jesus let Peter know that he was not yet converted and was in a position to be tempted. You can’t convert someone else if you haven’t been converted yourself.
Luke 22:31-33, 46
Temptation is the act of being tempted. To do an unwise act. Satan will paint a pretty picture to tempt us to do things so we will fall. We should strive to get what is in the Bible.
We find in the Book of Acts that Peter and the others were converted and received the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will change you.
Rom 12:1-2.
It says in 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
After conversion, we think differently. The Lord has to renew our minds.
Php 3:13-14.
We have to keep pushing and pressing to get converted and be ready. God Bless.

What a “Super” day to gather and worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter ledc in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing the piano. We rejoiced with Paizley Forbes and Sandra Keeney on their birthdays. Lonny Bramell and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 8: 28-30. This passage describes God’s sovereign providence for our care and good. God works all things for our good.
He knows everything about us. God’s providence is not always good or pleasant, but is a fulfillment with a good purpose. This is God guiding and working in our daily lives. No matter what is going on, Rejoice in the Lord always.

We are an open and affirming church and we welcome all to come and worship with us on Sunday mornings at 9 am.
We lost a kind, humble friend and church member this week. We will miss John Gover’s kindness, musical talent and wonderful friendship. We send prayers of love and comfort for his family.
Next Sunday the ladies of the church will have their Valentine’s Party. There promises to be delicious food and great fellowship! We thank David Maggi for sharing the powerful message this morning in Rev. Dane’s absence.
“Unless there is light, we are doomed to darkness.” “Unless there is light, we cannot be found.” “Unless there is light, hope is a lost cause.”
There are things in this world that are “kind of” but not absolute, it could be one way or another. But there are other things that are clearly absolute.
One thing that defies reasoning of our understanding of absolute is light. A good example is that you can see the bookshelf, but not the writing on the books. Windows let in light in the day, but only darkness at night. Light comes in, darkness does not.
The Gospels tell us that even though people had witnessed and seen for themselves the miracles that Jesus did, they still didn’t believe. They were seeing, but not believing.
Even today, it is amazing to think of all Jesus’ miracles that we witness, yet we continue to question.
At times, we get weary of all the darkness around the world. It creeps into our souls and we can lose our way. But God’s light is absolute, even when you are in darkness, you can see God’s light clearly.
When you truly believe, this amazing light that comes to you from Christ doesn’t shine just for you, it will shine through you and give strength, encouragement and hope to others. We cannot gravitate enough light to do this by ourselves, it is only through Jesus.
**********************************
O God of light, help us receive this amazing light that only comes through Jesus. Show us how to share and use that light in the world and to bring love and hope to all we meet. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
