Cards Stop Tigers

The Cardinal boys soccer team maybe played their best game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Cardinal Stadium. They hosted the 14-4 Excelsior Springs Tigers. The Cards went up early from a strike by Brant Bremer. The Tigers front line was very quick and pushed a transition goal in the net and tied the game 1-1. With 11 minutes left in the half Wally (Big Foot) Gregory banged a ball into the back of the net and made it 2-1. The Cards were healthy for a change with Noah Adams back in the line-up after missing the Lone Jack game. The Cards have improved in the variety of attacks they force upon their opponents. This variety includes wingers like Xzavier Ray getting more scoring opportunities. Xzavier surprised the Tiger goalie and made it 3-1 with 6 minutes left in the half. The Cardinal fans took a breath, but it was still a ballgame. Early in the second half the always dangerous Dereck McCormack struck from long range and banged the crossbar. The ball dived just in front of the goal when Abe Griffey raced up to it and finished the shot. The Cards went up 4-1 and that is how the game ended. The Cards finish their regular season on Thursday by having Senior night and hosting the Center Yellowjackets.
