The Windsor boys’ and girls’ teams both won their opening games in the Kaysinger Conference Tournament last Saturday. The tournament is hosted in Sedalia at the State Fair Community College gym. The Greyhounds continue play this week in the tournament.

Boys Basketball: The Windsor boys hosted Smithton last Tuesday and fell to the Tigers 68-59. The game was tied at halftime before Smithton took a large lead in the third quarter. Windsor made a run narrowing Smithton’s lead to three but the Tigers ended up with a nine-point victory. The top scorers and rebounders for the Greyhounds were Ryan Millington, Rowan Cox, and Conner Barnes.
On Saturday the two teams matched up again at the Kaysinger Tournament. The score was close all game and ended in an overtime. The Greyhounds captured their seventh win of the season with a 71-67 victory. Four Greyhounds scored in double figures led by Millington with 29, Barnes scored 16, Cox had 13, and Jude Burkhart scored a dozen. Reece Heany led the squad with eleven assists.
Coach Dave Hesse commented, “What a very emotional game with many highs and lows. Smithton is a fantastic basketball team that is very well coached. A month ago, we would have lost a game like this. We have gotten much better with situational basketball this last month.”

Girls Basketball: The Greyhound girls had a contest against Smithton postponed early last week as the Tigers had several players out with the injuries and illnesses. On Saturday, the two teams met in the Kaysinger Tournament. The Greyhounds had a convincing win outscoring Smithton 44-31.
Taylor Luetjen led the Black & Gold in scoring with fifteen points all from beyond the three-point arc. Nevaeh Blythe scored twelve points and Dani Ashby added nine points. Coach Tony Balbirnie noted that Olsyn Wolfe and Lily Betsworth defensed Smithton’s top shooter and held her scoreless the first three quarters.
