AC’s 27th Annual Christmas in the Country will be Saturday, December 2, 2023. The Depot Craft Show, sponsored by AC Museum, will be 9:00-2:00 featuring: Tom Holt’s Custom Woodwork, The Candy Stop, Margie’s Hand Woven Rugs, Mary Miller’s Sunrise Bakery, The Woodcutter, Warren Rauscher, Michelle Berry’s Afghans etc., Laura’s Jewelry, Backwoods Creations, Gary Woodward, Kitty Likes, Jewelry Plus, Wayne Jones, Wood Crafts, Sandi Greufe, Home Made Aprons & Towel Scarves and AC Museum Historical Books and Souvenirs. Home tours will be 1:00-4:00 p.m. featuring the homes of David and Alex Hill and Micah and Emily Noble. Tickets are $10 and available at the Depot from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Business open houses: 8-2 4th Street Fika, 8:00 Blue Bird Lounge- breakfast, drinks & snacks, 9-2 3 Wishes- live music, unique handcrafts, 9-5 Jina’s Junque-1 year anniversary featuring Pure Romance and Red Letter Craftworks, 9-2 Rural Roots- apparel & stocking stuffers, 9-2 Half Baked & Take- breads, candy popcorn, desserts, 10:30-9 Cork & Keg- adult cider and gift baskets and 4-7 Blue Bird Lounge- Christmas karaoke. The AC Library will have a bake sale during Christmas in the Country December 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or until sold out.
The annual Senior Citizen’s dinner at AC Schools will be 12:00 p.m. December 7 in the AC Elementary Gym. The doors will open at 11:30. The menu will be a traditional turkey and ham dinner with sides and desserts. Please RSVP by December 1 to 660-476-2118.
The AC/Montrose band is doing a pancake breakfast/open mic 8:00 - 10:30 a.m. December 9 in the AC elementary gym. They are trying to raise money to go to St. Louis. There is a contest at Six Flags they are going to perform at but they need money for hotel rooms, food, etc. If you would like to perform at the open mic or help with the pancake breakfast, please contact Dr. Yancey at byancey@appletoncity.k12.mo.us
Trinity United Methodist Church will have a dinner theater and Vesper Service with Communion at the manger with the animals December 10 at the Rustic Duck Restaurant. The play, “The Christmas Story Upon Grandma’s Feather Bed”, will be offered with dinner furnished by Rustic Duck at 5:00 p.m. or the play only at 6:00 p.m. with balcony seating. Tickets for the dinner theater are $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 years old and under can be purchased at Rustic Duck Restaurant and TUMC. The Christmas Vespers Service will follow the performance.

Nominations are being accepted for the January 14-20 public election of St. Clair County’s University of Missouri Extension Council. Candidate recommendations may be made by contacting the county extension center, (417) 646-2419. Nominees will then be contacted to secure their permission before being placed on the ballot. Nominations for the 5 open positions must be made prior to December 20, 2023. 2 Candidates are needed from the North District (Appleton, Monegaw, Chalk Level, Butler, Jackson, Center Osage and Taber Townships). 3Candidates are needed from the South District (Osceola, Polk, Dallas, Doyal, Roscoe, Speedwell, Washington and Collins Townships). St. Clair County’s council election will be held at the same time as all other counties in Missouri, the third week of January (specifically Jan. 14-20, 2024). The election is being held in accordance with state law (Chapter 262.550-262.620 R.S. Mo. 1969).
