The 18 th Annual Appleton City Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday, July 9 at the City Park. Check-in is from 8:00 a.m. to noon and the Car Show will be from noon to 3:00 p.m. There will be a $10 entry fee per vehicle. There will be judging for all classes with the top 70 for cars and trucks, top 3 for motorcycles and top 3 for rat rods. All entries will be given dash plaques. There will also be a 50-50 drawing, door prizes, goodie bags and a live auction. Food concessions, biscuits & gravy and cobbler & ice cream will be available. Proceeds from the Show will go toward a pair of $1000 scholarships for local high school students. In addition, Zink Motor Co, which is one of the oldest Ford dealerships in the country, is hosting the Kansas City Antique Car Club at the dealership in Appleton City during the car show. Model A’s and Model T’s will be on display. There will be an open house and tours of this historic dealership. The admission is free. The location for this show is across the street from the Appleton City Car Show. Ellett Memorial Hospital is hosting a retirement reception for Dr. Richard Dailey in the conference room on Wednesday, July 20 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Come and help send Dr. Dailey off to enjoy his much earned retirement. He has been with EMH since July of 2007 and everyone will sincerely miss his smiling face, friendship and medical wisdom.
The Appleton City Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program, Oceans of Possibilities! The program will take place on Thursdays in July (7, 14, 21 and 28) at 10:00 a.m. Kids 10 and under are welcome. The Ellett Memorial Foundation Board is also raffling off a 5 Burner Even Embers Gas Griddle to be given at the AC Fair on Saturday, August 13th. Tickets are $10 each or 2 for $15. Five area churches are teaming together to present a community VBS 6:00-8:00 p.m. each evening July 18-22. All kids ages 3 years- 6 th grade are invited to join them as they learn how to pray. (Children must be potty-trained to attend). Each church will host an evening: Trinity UMC - Monday, Rockville UMC - Tuesday, Church of God - Wednesday, River of Life - Thursday, Christian Church - Friday. Transportation is available. Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a Back to School Clothing Give-A-Way August 22. They will accept donations suitable for school age children (K-12). This is an advance notice, so when you are pulling out those outgrown items, you'll have a place for them to go. Items may be dropped off at the church August 15 – 19.
