A tense search that kept Henry County on edge has come to a thankful end. The Clinton Police Department announced on September 3rd at 4:24 pm that one-year-old Ezrah English has been located and is safe.

The toddler had been missing since August 30, when she was taken from her legal guardian's residence without permission during a supervised visit. The safe recovery was the result of an extensive, multi-agency investigation. The Clinton Police Department specifically thanked the United States Marshals Service, Missouri State Highway Patrol, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and police departments in Lee's Summit, Kansas City, and Raytown for their assistance.

Local law enforcement also made it a point to thank the public. In a statement following the recovery, the department noted, "The tremendous amount of cooperation, communication, and willingness to help throughout this investigation played an important role in bringing it to a successful conclusion". Police are withholding further details on the investigation, emphasizing that the most important outcome is that the child is safe.

When a child goes missing, the first question many ask is why an AMBER Alert did not immediately ring on their cell phones. In this case, the Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Endangered Person Advisory. The difference between the two alerts often causes public frustration, but it comes down to strict statutory criteria. An AMBER Alert requires a confirmed abduction with an immediate, proven threat of severe harm or death.

An Endangered Person Advisory is utilized when those specific AMBER criteria are not fully met, but a child is still at serious risk. It remains a highly effective tool. The advisory relies on partnerships between law enforcement and local broadcasters to spread the word quickly. It immediately pushes critical information, suspect descriptions, and vehicle details to regional law enforcement agencies, 911 dispatchers, and statewide media. As seen in this case, it ensures neighboring jurisdictions and the public are put on high alert, doing the necessary work to help bring a missing child home.
