No Place Like Homecoming! Clinton Celebrates This Week

The Clinton School District has been celebrating Homecoming all week with various activities in preparation for the Homecoming ceremony at the home football game Friday September 30th verses Missouri Military Academy. The theme for Homecoming this year is “Let the Games Begin”. There was no school on Monday the 26th due to professional development for school staff. Tuesday, students across the district dressed up as celebrities, characters from movies/television, and athletes to emulate the game Guess Who. Wednesday was Twister and students dressed in colorful, mismatched outfits. Thursday’s theme is Go Fish and students will be dressed as fishermen, hunters, hikers, etc. Finally, on Friday students will “Show their colors” for Battleship day. Students across the district will wear red, white, and/or blue.
In addition to dress up days, high school students have also been participating in float building activities. Each evening students and parents show up to locations as designated by their class sponsors and work on creating the class floats for the Homecoming parade. Thursday night after float building ends, students are invited to attend the Homecoming bonfire. The bonfire will take place at the high school from 8:30pm to 10:00pm. The pep band will perform, student council members, the activities director and coaches will give speeches regarding the upcoming football game. There will also be smores and music at the bonfire.
All week the students, teachers, and administration will be preparing for Friday as it will be a day packed full of activities. They will start the day with “March the Schools”. Students on the football, cheer, poms/dance, and band will march the halls along with Homecoming royalty first at CHS, then will bus to CTS and march the halls at CTS, ECC, CMS, CIS and Henry before returning to the high school. At 11:30 the Homecoming assembly will begin at the football stadium (weather permitting). After the assembly, students not in the parade will be dismissed to watch the parade. Other students will begin lining up on Bodine street to walk in the parade. At approximately 1:30pm the parade will begin with the JROTC program at the corner of 8th and Bodine. The parade will go down 8th street past the schools, onto Clinton street and continue to 3rd street. From there they will take 3rd to Franklin and then make a loop around the square.
Prior to the football game, the Clinton High School Alumni Association will be hosting the annual Homecoming picnic. This will start at 6pm at the football field. For the first 100 Alumni Association members a free meal will be provided courtesy of Powell Meats and Blue Ribbon Bakery and sponsored by OakStar Bank. During halftime of the Clinton football game, they will announce the winners of the float building contest and Homecoming royalty. This years’ Homecoming nominees are: Princess candidates – Addison Little, Skyte Wilson, and Sara Patterson. Queen candidates- Marissa Rivas, Olivia Goth, and Allie Cardwell. Prince candidates- Donovan Pack, Sean Rivas, and James peoples. King candidates- Gabriel Simmons, Xavier Ray and Emrie Neal. Immediately following the football game, there will be a dance for the high schoolers lasting until 11pm.
