Memorial Day Marked With Acts Of Poignancy

Posted

There are about 2,000 Veterans graves at Englewood Cemetery. Every year, for the past several years, Jennifer Umland has organized and implemented the placement of flags on those graves in preparation for Memorial Day. This year was no different. She usually spends a good of time during the year preparing for it: she has maps and markers, flags, and binders filled with the information she needs to tackle the task. And, individuals, groups, and organizations also donate their time to help. It is uplifting to see people in our community devote their time to remember the men and women who have served our country and make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
Despite the city having to put in some extra hours to make sure the cemetery was in good form (mowing, etc.) this year, everything appeared to turn out fine. Those who visited the cemetery were treated to a well kept, well marked place of final rest for Veterans and others alike. Although volunteer groups and individuals have been out at the cemetery for the past couple of weeks, here are some photos of the groups/families that were there only on Friday (thanks Jennifer Umland for the photos!)
