The 34th Annual Henry County Cancer Golf Tournament will take place this Sunday, July 17, at Clinton Country Club. The first flight of teams will take off at 8:00am while the others will shotgun at 1:30pm.
The tournament is fortunate to have 2 major sponsors, the Lindon Q. Skidmore Charitable Foundation, Kyle Sisney and Bank of America Trustees which has been the major sponsor of the tournament since 2008 and the Alec and Donna Belingloph Charitable Trust which joined in the cause to help local cancer patients needing assistance.
Golfers of all levels of ability are encouraged to participate. The format calls for 18 holes of golf to be played, with participants electing which session in which they would like to participate. Entry fee for the four person scramble is $300.00 per team (teams signed up and paid by July 5 received an early bird entry fee special of $260.00). The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, continental breakfast, lunch from 11:30am to 1:30pm, tee packages, entry in tournament drawing, entry in the special event contest (a prize is awarded on all 18 holes each session of play) and the opportunity to win the $300.00 prize in a putting contest which will be held between the morning and afternoon session. The person who makes the putt, or, whoever gets closest to the cup, will be the winner (all ties will be split).
Carts will be available for a rental fee of $30.00 per cart, but participants may bring their own carts, and are encouraged to do so. Players will be flighted according to their score after play is completed on Sunday afternoon, and the prizes will be awarded.
Proceeds from the tournament support the Truman Lake Cancer Relief Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization. All of the funds raised stay local. In thirty-three years, the tournament has raised $433,373.64 to help area cancer patients requesting financial assistance in their fight against this dreaded disease.
