Get To Know Clinton, MO - Nick Smith

Posted

NAME: Nick Smith.

BIRTHPLACE: Clinton, MO.

YEARS IN CLINTON: I lived a majority of my life in the Tightwad area, and most recently moved to Clinton in 2022.

FAMILY: I am the son of Loretta and Mark C. Smith. They were married almost 29 years. I have one sister, Breanna, who also lives here in Clinton.

THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN CLINTON IS: Clinton has such a rich history that not many people realize. I enjoy the fact that although many things have changed since 1836, we’re lucky that some things are still around.

OCCUPATION: I am a full time employee at TC Capri, where I work as a Machine Operator. I also work part time at the Henry County Museum.

WHAT I WANTED TO BE WHEN I GREW UP: So many things. When I was young I wanted to be President, but I was informed that I did not have the right set of people skills for that job.

FIRST JOB: I worked in my Dad’s machine shop until I graduated high school. Spent many years pushing a broom until he actually let me touch a machine.

FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY: Every 4th of July my family would have a giant party. Everyone from both sides of the family would come together. They were a blast as a child.

THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE WAS WHEN: My fiancee’s family and I went to Mexico for a week at the beginning of the year. I’m terrified of planes, so getting there alive was a whole lot more rewarding.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: My entire life people have always gotten me confused with the other Nick Smith or vise versa, who lives here in Clinton. I never met him until we got to high school, and people still couldn’t get it right.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST IN YOUR FRIENDS: Honesty. A good friend is always honest. Even when you are wrong.

YOUR GREATEST FEAR IS: Failure. I always am afraid to try new things.

I’VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO: Eat Brussel sprouts. I can’t and I won’t. EVER.

IF I WON THE LOTTERY, I WOULD: Most likely something responsible, like pay bills. Thats something an adult would do. Right?

MY DREAM TRIP WOULD BE TO: I’m good with staying home, so where ever my fiance Alyssa wants to go is good with me.

HOBBIES: I like to paint. I have done a few small murals around town, and hope one day I can do more. I also am a cemetery preservationist. I spend days when I’m off, usually in a cemetery somewhere cleaning or repairing broken headstones. So if you need anything like that done, stop by the museum or go ask John for my card at the Englewood Cemetery office.

FAVORITE BAND OR MUSICIAN: I am a music fanatic. I love 60s-80s rock, all years of country and I even dabble in some hip-hop and rap. My all time favorite band would have to be Alabama.

FAVORITE MOVIE: “O’ Brother Where Art Thou,” or maybe, “Unforgiven” with Clint Eastwood.

FAVORITE DRINK: I’m a Coca-Cola guy. I probably shouldn’t drink it, but i do.

FAVORITE SNACK: A cookie or something from Ben Franklin’s Bistro. I feel like I eat one at least 3 times a week. So shout out to them.

FAVORITE CANDY: Fruity tootsie rolls, because everyone hated them when I was younger.

FUTURE GOAL: I hope to graduate college one day.

WHICH PERSON DO YOU ADMIRE MOST: My parents, they sacrificed so much for my sister and I growing up.

ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF: Try not to be so antisocial, life goes on, and it’s OK to talk to someone when you feel down.

WORDS TO LIVE BY: “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Christopher Robin A. A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”.
