Donald R. McCune, 88, of Davenport, Florida, passed away on February 27, 2023, after a battle with heart and lung issues. Don was born on November 13, 1934, to William and Ruth McCune in Sedalia, Missouri. After graduating high school, Don, like so many farm boys, left home for prospects in Kansas City.
Don took a few jobs before landing at Puritan Bennett which would launch his long-term career in Health and Hospital Sales and Services. During his time in the “big city”, Don met Marion I. Dewey, and they wed in 1955, going on to have two children, Daniel and Douglas. Don remained married to Marion until her death in 1999. During bis business travels, Don met and later married Evelyn Steinle, who had two daughters of her own (and that’s how we became the McCune bunch!), and they have remained married to the present.
Don was a natural born leader and was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he knew they deserved. To Don, family meant more than anything else in the world and he always did his best to provide for the family and to raise his children. Don was generous to others and mentored young me11 who were missing a strong father figure. Many lives were positively impacted by Don, and he developed numerous lifelong friendships.
Don was a passionate reader which made it easy for gift selection. He would sit with a new book and put it down later that day when the last page had been read. Don loved playing cards, fishing, hunting and working the land. Don was always active in his churcl1, community and politics. Don served the country as a member of the U.S. Army/Army Reserves. Anyone who knew Don knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Don was predeceased by his mother Ruth, father William, brothers Dale and David, sister Carol and wife Marion. Don is survived by bis wife Evelyn and daughters Kim and Krystal, sons Daniel and Douglas as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of flowers please donate in Don’s name to the church of your choice. Don will be laid to rest next to his wife Marion in the Longview cemetery in Grandview, Missouri. Services are not yet planned.
