Cruising Around At Henry Elementary

Bringing bikes into PE class provides all students the chance to learn to ride a bike, and it’s also an opportunity to be active and have fun at the same time. Students practice bicycle safety and they also talk about Clinton’s very own Katy Trail that is great for bike riding. Not only do students learn that bicycling improves strength, balance, and spatial awareness, they also discover that it’s a lifetime sport they can enjoy their entire lives. This fun and educational PE unit was made possible by grants for bikes and helmets from the Clinton Rotary Club and Mid-Day Optimist Club. This year, kindergartners are able to participate in this unit, thanks to a grant for balance bikes from the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation. The balance bikes allow students to work on their balance without the use of training wheels, and helps them transition better to traditional pedal bikes.
Students are taught by Gina Johannsen.
