Sometimes cleaning out a closet, cooking a delicious hot soup or sitting by a fireplace can help beat the winter blues. Taking a walk on a sunny day can also help and in Clinton there are many activities at little or no cost to divert your attention from cold, gray skies.
Benson Community Center offers the use of its Wellness Area and Gym for free. Free membership cards are available by stopping by the facility to read the guidelines for use. To use the equipment, a 10 to 20-minute orientation is required.
The Aerobics Area has various classes for $5 to $8 each. They include: Fun and Fit with Kisha – Monday and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 A.M., * Silver Sneakers Class Body and Soul – Monday and Wednesday 5:30 – 6:30 P.M., Rise and Shine Yoga – Tuesday and Thursday 5:45 A.M., Boxing Fitness – Tuesday and Thursday 5:15 to 6:15 P.M., Tae Kwon Do – Thursday 6:30 – 7:30 P.M., Flexibility Class – Tuesday and Thursday 10:15 – 11:00 A.M., and 11:15 A.M. – 12 P.M. All class offerings are subject to change, please call for current class schedule/pricing at 660-885-2181. During snowy days when schools are closed many participants have been taking their children with them.
The Benson Center also offers special events including a Garage Sale from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. on January 25; A Gun Show on February 1- 2, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Saturday and 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. on Sunday; The Small business EXPO & Craft Fair, from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. on February 15; and the Clinton Christian Academy Fundraiser Dinner/Auction on Feb. 22.
The Henry County Library will begin its Winter Reading for Adults Program beginning February 1. Prizes will be available at the end. More information will be forthcoming.
The Heartland Community Theater of Clinton has free movies on the fourth Sunday of each month beginning at 2 P.M.
The Henry County Senior Center has planned its second Snowball Prom on February 22. It is family-friendly, there will be a band, and the public can choose a four-course dinner and prom ticket for $30, or a prom ticket only for $15. Dress up or wear jeans! The dinner begins at 6 P.M. and the prom at 7 P.M.
