Golden Valley Christian
Our nation has just observed another Memorial Day. We, at GVCC, also memorialized those who gave their lives to advance the freedoms of this nation. A somber video was shown of memorials this nation has erected, honoring these heroes. We always need to honor all of the survivors who served in these horrible wars, including smaller, but just as deadly, hostilities. The veterans of World War 2 (1939-1945) that are still with us, are in their late 90’s and older. The veterans of the Korean (1950-1953) and Vietnam (1960-1975) Wars, are also aging. We should never forget September 11, 2001, the catalyst that sent thousands of our troops into a miserable conflict in Afghanistan. Memorial Day is a day to reflect on what each of our veterans gave for this nation. The Bible tells us of many heroes, including King David and his brothers, who fought the Philistines (1 Sam 17:13; 48-54). The greatest hero of all time is Jesus (1 Pet 2:24).
Vacation Bible School will start this Sunday, June 5-8, from 6:30-8:30 PM. If you need more information, contact Melynne Jones. Because of VBS, there will be no Bible study on Wednesday, June 8th. Baked beans and boxes of instant mashed potatoes, collected for West Central Christian Service Camp, were delivered this week. Last Sunday’s offering is going to help the Ukrainian refugees and Mission to Russia. Thanks to all who helped in these efforts. We are happy to have Bro James McFarland and his family officially living in Clinton now. The McFarlands tell us they are extremely happy to be here, expressing how much they like our town. We are happy they are here, too!
In Bro James’ Memorial Day message, he pointed out that God gave the order for the first memorials, citing many that were ordered by God in the Old Testament. The Lord’s Supper, observed weekly by GVCC, was a memorial set up by Jesus himself, on the night he was betrayed (Luke 22:17-19). Bro James also stressed that Christians need to do some things consistently. We need to read, study, and memorize the scriptures, and to pray aloud, unapologetically. We need to share and show our faith to others and practice humility. We also need to love God and to love others as we love ourselves (Matt 22:37-39).
Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton. Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30. “Remember What God Has Done”
A memorial:
-something designed to preserve the memory of a person, event, etc., as a monument or a holiday.
-preserving the memory of a person or thing; commemorative.
The Bible speaks of both people and events that are memorials.
Ecclesiastes 9:5 (KJV)
To call Memorial Day, Declaration Day takes away from the memories of the person and the event. Declaration day I’d decorating the graves. The beauty of the flowers distract from the memory of the person or event.
Exodus 12:11 (KJV)
For God to tell them to eat in haste, with clothes on and staff in hand, says something exciting was about to take place. In verse 12 and 13 it says,
Exodus 12:12-14 (KJV)
The blood of the Passover on the doorpost protects. Holy Spirit today protects as did the blood at Passover. This was a memorial.
Exodus 16:32 (KJV)
They ate mana for 40 years. God wanted them to save an Omer for generations to know of God’s miracle that fed them in the wilderness. This was a memorial. When God is involved everything is possible.
Another memorial was in Joshua 4:2-7.
Jos 4:2-7 (KJV)
These stones would mark a memorial to the event of God cutting off the waters of the Jordan. All of these events should be remembered by all.
Deuteronomy 11:18-20 (KJV)
We should teach our children what God has done for us; the true meaning of Christmas; Good Friday, and Easter. Teaching our children the miracles of God will be a memorial to all he has done for us. God Bless.

Where does faith come from? From God, of course, through Word and Sacrament. Where can the preaching of God’s Word and sacraments most commonly be found? In church, of course, where God’s Word is correctly taught, and the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion are rightly administered. Trinity Lutheran Church is one such church.
Do you have faith in Jesus Christ? Thank God for it! It is not in any way your own doing, but His alone. Come to church this Sunday, where your faith will be strengthened by hearing God’s Word and the reception of His sacraments.
Or, do you worry that you have no faith, or not enough? Are you troubled by your sins? Good! That is the Holy Spirit at work in you. Come to church this Sunday, where God’s Spirit has promised to meet you there and work faith and salvation in you. Praise God!
Trinity Lutheran Church has determined to continue operating its Roger's Street House maternity home. The Church Council is making plans to establish a 5 person Board of Directors for the project. On this Sunday before Memorial Day we gathered to worship the Lord and to remember those who served this country. Clint Keeney rant the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefetter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Mrs. Tracy Bramell on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Chad Pollett's sermon was from Titus 1:1-5. Paul was a bond servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ from God and with first hand knowledge of the truth and faith in eternal life. We all need to be humble servants of God and to be aware of His Guidance. Paul was urging Titus to appoint elders in every town to complete his unfinished work. There is still unfinished work. Let God guide you in your journey and have a great week.
Valley Center United
On this Memorial Day and all days, we pause to honor and remember those who gave their last measure to protect us, our freedoms and our families.
Our hearts are broken as we reflect on the evil event that took so many innocent lives in Uvalde, Texas this past week. We pray for healing and peace for their families that are left behind. We pray for the people of the Ukraine who are defending democracy for all the world.
On June 4th and 5th, the Missouri Prairie Foundation with host the Prairie BioBlitz on the prairie surrounding the Valley Center Church. The dedication will be at 1:00 on Saturday, June 4th. The foundation named this beautiful prairie, Thoh-dah, which means PEACE. This land has been owned and cared for by generations of the Neuenschwander family for over 100 years and will now be preserved forever through the Prairie Foundation. This event is open for all to come and learn about the prairie and its history! There will be lot's of things to do for adults as well as children!
As children of the Resurrection, even when faced with terrible situations, our faith is always there for us to rely on. In today's world, we often see horrific images and losses that are unimaginable. When these things occur, our tears will flow and we may be confused when trying to understand why. Sometimes having faith takes hard work.
During these difficult times, it helps to feel others' sorrows and engage in their healing. Our faith brings us the sustainable hope that only comes from the love and grace of Jesus and God. It helps us to deal with these hard situations that the world brings.
When we look around, there are little reminders of God's presence everywhere. These reminders make it possible for us to see the goodness and beauty in this world and help others see them as well. It empowers us to help others who are facing hardships and doubts.
As people of faith, this wonderful, sustainable hope makes us believe that we will someday be received personally by the love and grace of Jesus and God. This hope is what we can believe in and always rely on.
In Jesus name, Amen.
