This past Sunday, Pastor Randy Shipman reminded us of how much we need to put our trust in God. Speaking from the chapter of Obadiah, Pastor Randy related this section of the Bible to our own lives, where self-reliance is alive and among us, and how those who trust in anything other than the Lord will never be truly secure. When we put our trust in God, we will be comforted in knowing that, when the day of the Lord comes, we may have deliverance, rather than agony.
As we continue ’30 in 30’, a collective of at least 30 service projects for each of the 30 days in September, great reports of serving have been received already. A Disaster Training opportunity is still available October 7-8 in Marshfield. If you are interested in this training, please contact the church office at 660-885-2211. Other opportunities for the week include Celebrate Recovery on Tuesday evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Vansant location, for anyone with hurts, habits and hangups, Henry County Rescue Mission’s dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the downtown location (209 E Jefferson), and GriefShare at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Vansant location for anyone needing help dealing with the death of a loved one. Also, please mark your calendar for Trunk or Treat on October 31st.
We invite those without a church home to join us in worship of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. First Baptist Church exists to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) by loving people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Are you salty? God calls us as His people to bring flavor to living. His spirit of love and confidence gives us hope to share with others. Trust in the Lord and remember He is with us always. Open your heart and be ready to serve. Mark 12: 28 – 34 was the scriptural text chosen by Rev. Nancy Gillard as she shared the message Apostles Creed, I Believe in the Holy Catholic Church. Ann McCoy was our accompanist on the piano.
School supplies, Best Choice Labels, prescription glasses and garden seed donations have multiplied in an impressive fashion on our foyer shelves. Soon these items will be delivered to the Festival of Sharing. Thank you to everyone who has made donations for this mission project. Preparations have begun for the Naomi Ruth Circle ladies to make “Blankets of Love” for young children in the area. All help is most graciously appreciated.

There are not many people in this world that think much good can come out of pain and suffering. Thinking seriously about that, we know, with the advanced medical technology we have today, it may take pain and suffering after surgery, or some other bit of technology, to restore our health. It is through a wound that one of the most beautiful jewels in the world is formed. When something like a grain of sand injures an oyster, its repair-resources rush to the site. The result is a beautiful pearl. Jesus’ suffering on the cross was ugly and painful, but the results gave the beautiful promise of salvation and heaven to those who believe (John 3:36).
The next youth group (grades 6-12) meeting will be October 9th, at 6:00 PM, with a “Color Fight.” We have resumed Bible study on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.
Bro James’ message continued with the miracle of Jesus walking on water. After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sent His disciples in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee, while He went up on a mountainside to pray. A few hours later, the boat was hit by strong winds. Jesus came to the boat, walking on the water, startling the disciples, who thought Him to be a ghost (Mark 6:48-50). The focus then was on Peter, when Jesus told Peter to come to Him on the water. Peter did that, walking a bit on the water until he became afraid, and started to sink. Jesus caught Peter, exclaiming, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” The ones in the boat worshiped Jesus, realizing more and more who Jesus was (Matt 14:33).

“How Can You Do Greater Works Than Jesus?”
Let’s look at some of his miracles that he did while he was here.
Jesus healed the man of palsy, he also forgave him his sins. (Matthew 9:2, 6)
Matthew 9:20-22 (KJV)
He healed the woman with the issue of blood. She said, if she could just touch the hem of his garment she would be made whole.
People must have faith that God can do what you are asking him to do. It’s not only for the pastor or minister to believe, but also you have to believe. Jesus can do what he wants but as he said to the woman, “according to your faith” her faith made her whole.
He raised the dead girl up. (Matthew 9:24-25)He opened the eyes of the two blind men (Matthew 9:27-30)
When you are praying for someone make sure they want to be healed because, depending on the circumstances not everyone wants to be healed.
Jesus healed the man who could not speak, and cast the demon out of him.
(Matthew 9:32-33)
Jesus heals, raises the dead, open the eyes of the blind, and cast out devils.
He went place to place teaching and preaching the gospel. (Matthew 9:35-36 KJV)
Luk 17:13-14.
Why did Jesus tell the men to go see him he priest? In Leviticus 14:1-13 it says:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest: And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper. (KJV)
God has the power to do whatever he wants. He does appoint people to do works for him. He said s always nearby to help. He will allow you to do what he called you to do.
Jesus sent them to the priest so he could do his job of declaring them clean. Notice in Luke 17:14 it said as they went, they were cleansed. God worked through the priest as he did his job.
In 2Corinthians 12:1-13 tells us of the diversities of gifts l, but all are of the same spirit.
1Corinthians 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
The manifestation is given to all
(1Corinthians 12:7) but not everyone uses it.
The Usher is important and can have the same gift of laying on hands, but there are many in the church who don’t use the gifts God gives them. When we receive the Holy Ghost we have power to do these things that Jesus did.
Looking at what Jesus did and knowing we also can do these miracles with the in dwelling of Holy Spirit in us, how can we do greater works than Jesus?
Joh 14:10-12.
The answer is in “Greater” Jesus was here on earth for 3 1/2 years. For those of us who have the in dwelling of Holy Spirit within us. We will be able to do the same as Jesus did; healing the sick, raise the dead, cast out devils, open blinded eyes.
For those of us who do these works by the power of Holy Spirit, we will do greater works than Jesus as long as we live past the three and a half years he did down here. It’s not about “Out doing Jesus” no one can do that.
It’s about the more we do these works in our length of days serving God, we will be doing greater in number than what Jesus did. God Bless.

Not so long ago, a question frequently posed by Christians to other believers was, “If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”
This question came to mind recently while listening to a sermon in which a minister told a story about a Christian man who worked alongside another man with whom he maintained a friendly relationship for many years. When the older man died suddenly, the younger man attended his friend’s funeral, and was surprised to discover that his co-worker also had been a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and had been active in his church throughout his life.
Do your coworkers, friends, and even family members know you are a Christian? Can they tell by how you live your life and conduct yourself around them that you are a believer? Is there enough evidence to convict you?
If you think the answer might be “no,” don’t be discouraged. In today’s world, many believers in Jesus Christ find it difficult to speak freely about their faith and live openly Christian lives. There is great pressure to conform to modern mores and abandon…or at least keep quiet about… one’s religious beliefs and convictions. Witnessing about one’s faith in Jesus Christ is often considered to be impolite, hateful, bigoted, illegal, or just plain stupid. After all, all religions lead to the same god, don’t they? (Actually, no they don’t).
Those who live in darkness detest those who walk in the light. But, we should not give in or just go along to get along. Our Savior has called us into His “marvelous light” for a purpose, to let it shine among others. As Jesus said:
“Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you, and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven...You are the light of the world...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:11;16).

The hot weather didn’t keep the faithful worshipers away. Today, Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. Jim Kelsay and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Chad Pollett’s sermon was from John1: 29-34. This passage tells that John the Baptist was clearing the way for the coming Messiah. The Messiah would come to take away our sins and to Baptize us in the Holy Spirit. He cleans our soul on the inside so we can have fellowship with Him. The Messiah, Jesus, was our sacrificial lamb. His blood was shed for us.
We also rejoiced and praised the Lord for the baptism of Charles and Paisley at Randy Vogt’s lake. What a wonderful day. Have a great week.

A great Fall Sunday to gather and worship the Lord. Today, Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Eldon Humphreys on his birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Chad Pollett’s sermon was from John1:35-39. In this passage John the Baptist was ministering to the people and telling them of the coming Messiah. When Jesus came walking up the road John the Baptist told his followers that this man was Jesus, the Lamb of God, the Messiah. They then followed Jesus. I pray you are following Jesus and seek His will in your life. Have a blessed week.

We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us on Sunday morning!
Congratulations on the marriage of church member Mary (Russell) and George Huber! We send our love and best wishes to them in their new life together!
We send our prayers of love and healing to David and Christy Maggi. We continue our prayers of healing for a church member as they face some serious health issues and surgery.
Next Sunday we will observe World Communion Day. Plans are continuing for our annual Oktoberfest, which will begin at 3 pm on October 15th in our church fellowship hall. We hope to see you there!
God’s presence is in our world yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is our reason to serve others. As we live out our lives, we need to give more, speak out for those who can’t for themselves and connect with those who are hurting and needing a helping hand.
Last Sunday we celebrated our first 150 years in the life of our church and this week we are starting on our next 150 years! It was God’s love, grace and his promise of salvation that led our ancestors here, to this place on the brow of the hill. He was their teacher, leader, healer and prophet. He came to them as the Savior Jesus and they knew that they could depend on the promises that God offered.
Just as our ancestors knew and believed, Jesus is the only one who can forgive our sins and bring us salvation. The burdens of today can only be taken away by him. He died for each one of us, so we can live.
With faith and understanding of God’s love, we shed our mortality and get immortality. In a quick blink of an eye, we shall be received by Jesus. We will be face to face with the people that we loved and see the unconditional love for us shining from Jesus’ face.
