Calhoun UMC
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun United Methodist. We were pleased to gather in fellowship and love, to praise the Lord with church family. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call the “flock” to
10:00 Worship. Our service is live-streamed for face book.
Our Sympathy and Christian love are extended to the family and friends of Troy Johnson who passed into the arms of Jesus last week. Others on our prayer list included Celura and Leroy Books, Harold Ebeling, Judy Hudson, Audrey Osborne, Larry Williams, Ron Martinez, Cory Miller,Gary Hibbs, Logan Colwell, Hal Ross, Bob and Dave Burson. We continue to pray for the Ukrainian people and their fight for freedom, the lost, lonely and the least in this country. We pray for our church families and the welfare of each and every American.
Joys to be celebrated: We were blessed with a small shower of rain this morning, one of many miracles that we take for granted as we travel through this life. Sharon Miller is joyfully anticipating a visit from friends from Canada. We are an aging congregation and find we have more to be grateful for each and every day. We are looking forward to partnering with the Colt Show group in the “Trunk an Treat” activities on the square for Halloween.
We welcome visitors any Sunday morning for worship, come dressed as you are comfortable and be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort. We will be blessed by your presents.

Rev. Tom Waller, Pastor What a wonderful day to come to the House of The Lord. We thank Him for the good weather we have been enjoying and especially this beautiful day.
Pastor Tom’s message was called Praying For Healing. His main scripture was James 5:14 & 15, and he used many other scripture verses to further illustrate his message.
Remember: Prayer and Praise at the church Wednesday at 6 p.m.
It is amazing how God works things out! Pastor spoke of his time in Branson, Spending time alone with Jesus is very fulfilling. God is in control. Healing is a theme for a few weeks. “I believe in the healing power of God.” the pastor said. Jesus’ power is available! We have a responsibility to turn to the Elders of the church and ask them to pray for your healing. This calls for faith in our Heavenly father! We cry out to others for prayers. Humble yourself and come to the altar. Confess your need. Trust and believe that good things are going to happen.
We thank each person who came to worship here today. We pray that you received a rich blessing by being here and that you will come again. Seeyou in church?

On Sunday, Student Pastor Joey Conway described how our faith activates the Holy Spirit within us, even when we face disappointment. Even as Christians, and regardless our good works, we will still face difficulties. However, we may still find joy and peace in the midst of suffering. James 1:3 reminds us that the testing of our faith produces endurance. In order to find this joy and peace, we must have a right view of God, who is sovereign, and in complete control. We must remember that difficulty comes from sin, not necessarily our personal sin, which Christ died for on the cross. Hard times are a reminder of how much we need Him, and when we seek Him, we must do so with all our hearts.

Time and time again we fail to be the people God desires us to be. Let us remain thankful that He is willing to heal our hurts and forgive our wrongs. God is always with us lifting and guiding our lives. Place your life in His loving presence. God is our refuge and our stronghold. This week the anthem was “Listen to the Lord” by McGlohan played by Gay Smith. Rev. Nancy Gillard used John 14: 15 – 28 as the text for her message I Believe in the Holy Spirit.
The collection for the Festival of Sharing continues. School supplies, Best Choice Labels, prescription glasses and garden seed donations are growing on the foyer shelves. Later in the month the Naomi Ruth Circle ladies will make “Blankets of Love” for young children in the area. All help is most graciously appreciated.
The Deacon’s Garage Sale held last Friday and Saturday was a tremendous success. The huge amount of donations for sale along with the volume of customers made all the effort worthwhile. Monies collected will be used for a variety of ministries within the community of Clinton. Thank you to all who participated in any way.
Tai Chi classes continue in fellowship hall each Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 am. Come be a part of one of these classes.
Weekly ZOOM Bible Study is on Wednesday’s at 11:30 am. Please contact the church office and the link will be sent to you if you are interested in participating. Rev. Gillard guides this weekly study.

A little girl, in a bad mood, pulled her younger brother’s hair and kicked him in the shin. In seeking the reason for the deed, the mother asked the little girl why she had let Satan put it in her heart to be so mean to her brother. The little girl answered, “Well, maybe Satan did put pulling his hair in my heart, but kicking his shin was my idea.” Unfortunately, the hearts of men, through anger, hatred, and frustration, sometimes come up with their own idea of evil. King David’s son, Absalom, is a prime example of this. He not only disrespected and defied his father, but also tried to usurp his father’s reign as king (2 Sam 15:10-18). There is none totally immune to doing bad things, big or small, therefore vigilance is always necessary. (Matt 15:19)
A delicious carry-in meal was enjoyed by those attending last Sunday. GVCC is blessed to have an abundance of good cooks among us. GVCC extends its deepest sympathy to Les and Holly Smith, due to the passing of Les’s mother. While we grieve with Les, the angels rejoice in welcoming another saint into their midst. Bible study has resumed on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, at the church building; the topic of the study is the Chronological Life of Christ.
Last Sunday, Bro James continued the messages of the miracles Jesus performed. The scripture was from John 5:1-5 and detailed the healing of the lame man. This miracle took place at a pool called Bethesda, in Jerusalem. Many ailing people came to this pool to be cured by being in the water. A man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years was lying at the side of the pool. Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be healed, and the man replied that he had no one to put him in the water. Jesus immediately healed the man and told him to pick up his mat and walk. Since this healing was done on the Sabbath, walking in this manner was forbidden by Jewish rule. When the man did as Jesus said, it angered the Jewish leaders against Jesus (John 5:16).

“Pulling Down The Strongholds Of The Devil”
2corinthians 10:4-5 (KJV)
People give the devil too much credit in the chaos they experience. Most of the time he has a stronghold on people and we have to pull those strongholds down.
In 1Kings 18 God sent Elijah to Mount Carmel. Satan had a stronghold on Israel.
The more people Satan binds, the more he wants. He loves binding God’s people.
These people in 1Kings were following a false God, Baal, who wasn’t alive, so it definitely did not perform miracles. What good has the Devil done that would cause people to follow him?
When Elijah was at Mount Carmel he told the people if Baal was God follow him, but if God was God, then follow him. They could not give him an answer. Satan’s hold was strong on them. Baal was a big problem for Israel.
We pull down the stronghold of Satan with the word of God. Prisoners of Satan need God’s word taught to them, and preached to him to pull down those strongholds.
In the book of Ephesians it tells us to put on the whole armor of God. People ties up in sin believe it is too late for them and they can’t get out of sin. It is never too late.
Heb 4:12 (KJV)
The only way to break Satan’s stronghold is getting the word of God in your heart and spirit.
There was a man who mad idols of the false god, Diana with silver. Paul preached about Jesus and turned many of the idol worshipers from Diana to Jesus Christ!
We have to follow what God puts in our hearts, then we won’t have backsliders.
1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (KJV)
Joh 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.(KJV)
Rom 12:1-2 (KJV)
Pull down the strongholds. Get rid of your past. Let go of those old friends that can take you back to where you used to be. We have to be strong enough to pull down those strongholds of Satan. God Bless.

Valley Center United
Today we gathered together to celebrate our incredible 150 years of Faith, Service and Love in the life of our church. It is incredible that we have had only 8 ministers during those 150 years!
We were honored to have Reverend Damien Lake join us for this celebration, who is the Associate Conference Minister from the Mid-South Conference of the United Church of Christ.
This morning, our worship services began with some very special music by John Gover and his group and a powerful message was given by Rev. Dane. A time of remembrance of our history was shared and also stories of present day fellowship and missions
We remembered all of the saints who came before us that built this church and made this community their home. As they journeyed with their families here from far away lands, they wanted a place to go and to be part of, where love was always present. They wanted a place to be where everyone knew them and accepted them. Their strong faith in God brought them here to this valley and stayed with them as they built their homes, school and this church that is surrounded by a beautiful native prairie. They knew the importance of having the church doors open for all to come and worship. They did what God wanted them to do, they shared his love.
Our mission today is no different. We have the same desire and yearning to be in the presence of God, the One who is Holy. As we continue to come here to worship in this place that we love, we know that we are where we should be; in our Father’s House.
This day was made a success because of so many people and our church was filled with much love and laughter! Beautiful wooden crosses, that were made by a very talented member, were given to everyone. Our fellowship hall was beautifully decorated and a selection of German appetizers was served, followed by a delicious meal. Fresh baked pies finished the meal off with homemade ice cream that was made by the Jim Neuenschwander family. Our church and community has survived and thrived for 150 years and it will continue to survive and thrive!
We thank God for this church on the brow of the hill.
