Drakes Chapel UMC
Pastor Margie’s scripture lesson centered around forgiveness. The Disciples asked Jesus how many times must we forgive someone, seven? Jesus replied, “NO, 7 x 70”. Sometimes when we have been hurt by word or deed or both forgiving someone even once seems too hard. When the bonds of friendship have been broken, when trusted relationships have been breached, our hearts break. Forgiving is easier said than done for many of us. Our Savior also says that we must forgive for him to forgive us. That changes everything. Most of us have much work to do.
Drakes Chapel UMC received two more members by transfer of letter this Sunday. Our church family continues to grow. When some churches find it hard to grow their congregations, Drake seems to be blessed these
days. We give all the glory to God!
A brief business meeting was held following worship. Fall is looking busy at Drake’s Chapel. We look forward to finding new ways to serve our
community.
We hope you will join us any time in person at 9:00 am or look for Margie Briggs on Facebook Live at that same time. We are located 8 miles east of Clinton off Hwy 52. Just look for the sign. Please remember to look for an opportunity to be a blessing to others!

First Baptist
On Sunday, prior to a powerful time of worship, several announcements included Wednesday evening activities, service and Sunday School changes beginning on October 1st, and the celebration of 157 years as First Baptist Church-Clinton. Pastor Pat Findley then began his Fall sermon series, ‘Weakness is greater than Strength’, with a message titled ‘Crisis Circumstances’. He offered a profound illustration of spiritual growth to the feeling of driving a car with a manual transmission. He described the lack of comfort when stalling the car in traffic and going backwards while trying to move forward. According to Judges 6:1-10, Israel’s disobedience reflects the cycle of sin we all face. When we fall into sin, God loves us too much to leave us there. God sometimes disciplines to develop us for our ultimate good, but discipline should not be interpreted as punishment. Punishment, rather, is paying for crimes while discipline is purposeful. Discipline reminds us that we have salvation. While it may be uncomfortable or painful at times, it later yields righteousness. God is not as interested in fixing our situation as He is changing our hearts. Crisis circumstances are times to be extra attentive to anything God wants to teach us. While every difficulty is not necessarily of God, it is an opportunity for spiritual growth. Sometimes, we need understanding more than relief. God is determined to develop us. His plan is perfect, and all we should do is surrender and trust Him.
Beginning October 1st, Sunday worship service times will change to 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Sunday School will then be offered in 2 times slots: 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Youth and Children’s Ministries will align with these times. Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings, beginning at 5:30 p.m., for anyone with hurts, habits and hangups. On Thursdays at 6 pm, GriefShare provides help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. For more information and upcoming events, please visit www.firstbaptistclinton.church or find us on Facebook at ‘First Baptist Church – Clinton, MO’.

Begin each new day by thanking God for the gift of life, beauty and creation. Be at peace and remember that God is with you forgiving, healing and helping you to become the person he created you to be. Share his love with those around you. The message brought by Rev. Nancy Gillard this week was Come, All, Rest. Matthew 11:25-30 was the scripture reference. Our hand chimes choir delighted us with a rendition of the hymn “How Firm a Foundation”.
The donations of prescription glasses, garden seeds, Best Choice labels and school supplies continues throughout the month of September. The response to this mission project has been remarkable. People of all ages will be helped through this effort. If you haven’t had the opportunity to contribute there is still time. All donations are much appreciated.
On Tuesday, September 19th the Presbyterian Women met to participate in “Cut and Tie Day”. The ladies made Blankets of Love which are donated along with the other items for Festival Of Sharing.
Tai Chi classes meet each Monday and Wednesday at 10 am. Tai Chi helps strengthen your core and improve balance. Consider joining.

“Put Away the gods You Used to Serve”
Jos 24:14. Genesis 7:1. Genesis 7:13.
These were the eight people who were righteous before the Lord. All of the other inhabitants on earth were destroyed by the flood.
Since the flood happened long before Abraham, and Moses were born. We understand that as Joshua mentions “ the other side of the flood” is a figure of speech. The flood that Noah was in occurred long before Abraham and Moses.
Abraham was amid sin where he lived and the Lord told him to leave that country. People often make excuses for being in the situations that they are in.
Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and Aaron all lived among pagan nations that worshiped false gods. Joshua was told to destroy all of those nations, but he did not. When you leave a small amount of people untouched, they will become a problem.
As God wanted Joshua to be rid of those gods that people served. God wants us to be rid of the gods we have served.
If you do not get rid of the roots, they will just keep growing bigger and stronger. The Israelites did not rid themselves of their roots which is why they kept going back to pagan gods.
Because eight people survived the flood and they were righteous, who re-introduced sin back into society all over again? It was Satan. No, one thinks to bring accusation to him as he roves about. We, instead accuse one another.
The world was destroyed, but Satan could not be drowned. He is the bad root. Remember, if you don’t destroy the root of what is causing your sin, it will remain and continue to grow.
Satan is the one who makes it hard for Christians to serve God. In Matthew 12:43-45
Mat 12:43-45.
Satan will revisit you to see if your “house” is clean, without sin. To see what he needs to do to bring chaos into your house. He will return with seven demons worse and enter the person making him or her worse off than they were before.
To make that person worse off than he or she was before means that Satan and the other demons found a way back in. He does the same to each of us who are serving the Lord. We have to watch our backs at all times.
Those things we view as small things that we keep doing are “roots” that continue to grow. If you think drinking alcohol in a small amount is no big deal, it is. It lowers your inhibitions and causes you to do things that are in opposition to God. Get rid of the gods that you serve. God Bless.

A good crowd gathered to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell.
Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Avery Crump on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell was from John16:5-16.
In this passage Jesus was telling the Disciples that he was leaving them for their good, but he would leave them with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will comfort, guide, and direct us. The Holy Spirit teaches us with His word, convicts us of our sins, and gives us hope and endurance in all circumstances. We should thank the Holy Spirit continually for the gift and power of His Spirit given to us through Jesus Christ. Have a great week.

Almighty God, we give you thanks for the joy of this glorious day! It is such a blessing to come to our church on the brow of the hill to worship God. We give him all the glory and thanks for the gift of faith and forgiveness.
A reminder that our Oktoberfest will be held on October 14th, with serving beginning at 3 pm. This is a time of fellowship and service for our church and we welcome all to come and join us for this special annual event!
Our message this morning was about being consistent in our way we approach others and in the prayers that we say every day. It was about the faith that grows as we continue to forgive.
What does the Bible say about prayer? We are all called to pray for our churches, communities, nation and world. We are to continue to pray for our enemies and to work daily through our issues of forgiving .
What does the Bible say about forgiveness? How often are we to forgive others who continue to harm us? Do we keep score? In the Gospel of Matthew it says, “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Jesus answered, “I tell you not seven times, but seventy seven times.”
Very often it is hard to forgive ourselves and even more difficult to let it go and move on. But, do not count how many times we forgive or how many times we pray. We are to be kind and compassionate towards one another, forgiving each other over and over, just as Christ Jesus forgave us. Our faith empowers us to do this and to be the person that God expects us to be.
