Calhoun UMC
This weekend was the 114th Annual Calhoun Colt Show, on Sunday the area Churches gather at the rear of the City Hall building in the center of the square for a union church service; with around 68 in
attendance. Tom Colwell from the newly formed Calhoun Community Church gave the opening and
closing prayers. Rev. Joe Hall from Mount Mariah Church was song leader, Rev. Mark Abney from
Calhoun Baptist gave the children’s message and Rev. Larry Mallory from Mt Olivet gave the message. The offering of $352.00 was given to the Hope House sponsored by Calhoun Baptist Church. The worship service and children’s play day rounds out a weekend of fun and fellowship in a small town atmosphere.
An exciting time was had at Calhoun Community Church (formerly Calhoun UMC) on Saturday during the Colt Show. A “Quilt Share” was enjoyed by folk attending the fair. The pews in the church sanctuary
were covered with quilts brought in to share. Best of Show was voted on and an embroidered quilt
depicting 1920’s children shown by Beverly and Steve Siercks won best of show and received the Best of Show trophy. Second place was a 100 year old Dresden Plate Quilt from the collection of Barbara and
Tom Colwell. In front of the church a bake sale was held featuring homemade Cinnamon Rolls by
Carolina Lane and other delicacies. Tours of the church were given and much visiting was enjoyed. Our thanks to all who came; and made a most enjoyable day for our small but growing congregation.

Clinton Church of the Nazarene
September 3, 2023 Service
Our sermon was called “Words Matter!” Think about it. Words can praise or compare our thoughts for better or worse. Words can build a persons morale, or riddle that same morale, with doubts or fear. John 2:18. We can glorify God through our words of love and hope. We don’t control our thoughts all the time. We can however, trust Jesus words to be the true gospel.
Come down from heavenly heights to brighten our days and our thoughts. Always remember, Jesus has the answers. We can call out to Him in prayer any time, any where knowing He will never forsake you nor leave you.
He only asks us to trust Him above all else. He is there for you and He will never forsake you. Praise the Lord.
We thank each person who came to worship here today, we hope you received encouragement for your future. Only trust Jesus.

Drakes Chapel UMC
It was a glorious halleluiah Grandparent’s Day at Drake’s Chapel UMC on Sunday. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
We were blessed that several children and one grand dog came to visit this peaceful chapel where their grandparents worship our Savior. Long time, or perhaps we should say lifetime parishioner Mickey Chapman shared some of Drake’s Chapel history and stories of how things were at our church years ago. Drake’s Chapel is known to be the oldest church in Henry County. It was organized in 1835.
Mickey told of ice cream suppers and dinners that drew people from all around. The ice cream suppers were discontinued in 1969 because they could not keep up with the demand. Lots of folks to this day will seek out local United Methodist Churches known for their delicious ice cream suppers.
Pastor Margie’s yellow bag contained a beautiful book which she read to the grandchildren. The book title was, “When I Talk to God, I talk About You.” The book was written by Chrissy Metz & Bradley Collins and was illustrated by Lisa Fields. It seemed as if everyone enjoyed the book as well as the children.
Margie message told of the many passages where Jesus talked about children. He tells us how important the scriptures about children are for us to remember todcl3/. Each grandchild present received a wooden palm cross as a reminder that Jesus will love them forever.
The church received another member by a letter transfer. We continue to grow our congregation in so many ways. We are blessed is so many ways!
We thank God every day for His many blessings. It would be a special one should you choose to join us for worship on any Sunday at 9:00 in person or on Facebook live. Just look for Margie Briggs. Our church is located five miles East of Clinton on Hwy. 52.

First Baptist
On Sunday, members and guests were given a voluntary opportunity to speak on how God was at work in their lives. Many of the incredible stories included providing lunches over the summer, raising money for believers to attend FaithWalk, partnering with other Baptist churches, both in Henry County and abroad, and many more awesome testimonies of God’s hand at work all around us. Later in the service, Kevin Griffey asked, by show of hands, who among us made the decision to follow Christ before age 25. He reminded us of the importance of connecting with young people. As we prepare to offer more opportunities for connection, there is a need for people to serve in youth and children’s ministries. This is an incredible opportunity to impact young hearts and minds for generations to come. We are all called to spread the good news to accomplish God’s purpose in our own lives. Let us all consider our service to the Lord, especially in connecting with young people all around us!
Beginning October 1st, Sunday worship service times will change to 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Sunday School will then be offered in 3 times slots: 8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Youth and Children’s Ministry will also align with these times. Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings, beginning at 5:30 p.m., for anyone with hurts, habits and hangups. On Thursdays at 6 pm, GriefShare provides help and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. Mt. Calvary Apostolic Pentecostal
“We Have A Lot to Overcome”
We have a lot to overcome in this world with how things are going. It tells us in
1Co 10:1-5. (KJV)
We have to stay in God’s word and his strength. Keep him in our spirit. It is a heart thing.
We can hear God’s word, but it has to have meaning and direction in our lives. We need God in our lives and the Lost should be brought into the knowledge of God.
There has to be a change. We should pray for all those who despitfully use us. We need the power and influence of God upon our lives. Those who are lost need salvation.
1Pe 1:16. (KJV)
Let us be Holy, not religious. Holy is true, God is true, his word is true and we should be true to him.
1Pe 4:14.
It means a lot to know God will never leave you or forsake you.
James 4:7.
Salvation is a heart thing, not a mind thing. God will lift your heart when you are down. He did not put the sin on you, but he will remove it from you if you are willing to give it up.
You have to be obedient. Sometimes God will tell you strange things, but it is for you.
He is here to do whatever you ask, take authority over it in the name of Jesus.
Speak no evil of anyone because they are different. We have Christ in us. He will work through us because he has the power to do so. You can’t outdo God. You do not have to go looking for blessings, they will come to you.
(James 4:8-17)
2Ti 2:2.
We need to keep our focus on the Lord. God will deal with the ungodly. Let us glorify God and not self. Do not allow yourself to be lured away from God.
Put on God’s armor and always teach the truth of God’s doctrine. Our power is in the word and prayer brings change. When you have the light of God in you. You can take authority and denounce evil. Light moves darkness away.
Listen to the Lord and wait on him. He will take care of you.
(2Corinthians 12:7-9) God Bless.

Trinity Lutheran
Nancy Richeson, a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran, recently celebrated her 82nd birthday on September 1st. Congratulations and Happy Birthday, Nancy!
Don’t forget to mark your calendar. The LWML is holding an Ice Cream Social & Bake Sale after the service on September 24th. The LWML is requesting donations of pies and baked goods. There will be a silent auction with the pies, and a bake sale with items donated to the event.
In his Small Catechism, a summary of the Christian faith for parents’ use to instruct their children, Martin Luther urged parents to teach their children thusly:
“I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with HIs gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in one true faith.
In this Christian Church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true.

We were surrounded in love as we gathered to worship the Lord.
Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Mick Vogt and Michael Klinefelter on their birthdays.
Clint Keeney and Randy Vogt collected the offering.
The scripture passage from interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was from John 15:18-27. In this passage it tells us there are consequences to our choices. If we choose to believe in Christ as our Savior there will always be those who hate us. The Holy Spirit in us gives us strength and guidance to stay steadfast in our faith no matter what we endure. All believers will be blessed to be in heaven for eternity with the Lord, believing family and friends.
Have a blessed week and remain steadfast in serving the Lord.

The date for our annual Oktoberfest is on Saturday, October 14th. We welcome everyone to come spend the evening with us! There will be a country store, musical entertainment and plenty of delicious food to enjoy! Serving is from 3:00 to 8:00. Our Homecoming Sunday will follow the next day! We thank the anonymous “crew” that did some very beautiful landscaping around the church this week! Valley Center continues to support our local food bank! It is an important mission for our church.
Irelyn lit the candles to begin our worship services.
Our message today was, “What Shall We Confront Today?”
When Jesus said, “Who do you think I am”, it was a confrontation. Jesus is our perfect model. Just as he confronted others with some hard questions, we too need to step up and speak out about important issues!
Even when the world doesn’t react, when their beliefs are that there aren’t any problems, no homeless, no hunger, no apathy or no health issues in the world, it is then that we need to speak up! Just as Jesus confronted others with questions, we react in confronting the world. We are to use our voices to make changes and to bring the information that is needed to be heard. It is all so easy to let others do the work and for us to sit aside and watch. We often feel that we are just one person, what can we do? But with God, all things are possible.
As people of faith, we should always have a list of issues, concerns, projects and opportunities that keep us focused on the teachings and values of Jesus.
What’s on your list? Who do you want to be? What is your passion that you want to speak up about? ? What will it take to bring understanding? Remember, Jesus gives us the strength and courage to continue even when it seems that nothing will bring unity.
It is so important to have that conversation, voice our concerns and be the change! We need to embrace and confront the world to make it a better place!
