Henry County Retired Teachers Vote On Grants

Posted

The Henry County Retired Teachers met on April 25 at the Clinton Methodist Church. President Kathy Nepple led the Pledge of Allegiance before beginning the business meeting with 24 in attendance. Loree Walrath gave an update on legislative activity affecting education. Sarah Prince called attention to two check scams that she had read about in the AARP magazine. One is called Check Washing and the other is called Check Cooking. Members voted to give two $300 grants to Henry County teachers. Applications will be sent to the schools. Refreshments were provided by Vivian Taylor, Penny Lindsey and Anita Slocum. Door prizes were won by Roberta Edgett, Marsha Diebold and Linda Stephenson. The next meeting will be June 27 at 10:00.
A program was given by Ashlynn Newman, owner and operator of Clinton Candle Company. In addition to selling candles, candle making workshops, parties and a candle bar are available. Being environmentally friendly is important to Ashlynn so her candles are 100% soy wax, and the wicks are 100% cotton. She will also recycle candle “vessels” and give a discount on your next candle. Clinton Candle Company has over 100 scents, as well as home décor, soaps and (coming soon) lotions. Candle melts were given to all attendees.
