Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Tom rang the church bell in Tuckers absents to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our prayer list includes: Patty Dump’s Uncle Rick, Jerry Reed, and Dave Burson; our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: All were pleased for the peanut chocolate chip cookies shared by Carol Lane for prechurch fellowship this morning. Steve lit the altar candles and served as usher in Tuckers absents. We were pleased to sing happy birthday to Patty and Tawyna Conner with wishes for many more. Shelby Bicknell shared his talent with special music, “Give Your Heart and Soul to Jesus Christ.” We thank him for sharing. Steve Siercks expressed his joy of spending time with his mother Verna Walters and eating at Frank’s Fish Shack. Barbara Sales will soon be moving to Houston, Texas to be near her daughter. We wish her well. Harvesters was held Friday on the square, with the usual crowd. Debbie Joy and her friends had a great day yesterday helping Debbie in her yard. They along with Sue Lesmeister had a pleasant evening on the town in Sedalia.
Rev. Jackson Short’s message title was “The Power of Prayer.” The road of the faithful is hard and filled with challenges along the way. Sometimes we complain. Sometimes we take a different road. Sometimes we let others lead us astray. Our only recourse is prayer; as we ask for forgiveness, and the Lord’s help to meet the challenges we face; restoring our faith that we might again be a blessing for our church and community.
We invite you to worship any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable. Plan to receive a blessing for your effort, bring the youngsters and we will be blessed for your presence.
Thought for the week: “One can walk in any direction for exercise, but in life’s walk it’s good to have a path to follow.”

On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley referred to Luke 5 in the 1st of a 5-message series titled “Called to Live on Mission”. After describing 7 aspects of being a Christian, Pastor Pat challenged members and guests to pray daily over the list he provided, offering the following prayer example:
Father, thank You for another day to grow up in You. Thank You for another day to help those around me come to know You better. Lord, today would You help me be available to You? Would You help me to be sensitive to how You’re already at work around me? Lord, help me trust You today. Help me to take You at Your Word and to adjust my life accordingly. Lord, help me to live today, not in my own strength, but in Your strength. I want to experience Your power in me, through me, and around me. Keep me humble, Lord. Forgive me when I fall short. Help me to be quick to repent when I do fall. Search my heart. Find pride and get it out. Keep me focused on living for Your glory above all else. Father, help me to live with a sense of amazement at who You are and what You do. Lord, I want to anticipate how You might show up in my life today. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. Help me to see the people around me as You see people. Help me to show love to everyone I meet today, as I look for opportunities to fish for souls. Above that Lord, I surrender all to You right now, all over again. God, I surrender anew, all I know of me to all I know of You. So, here I am, Lord. Use me and everything You’ve entrusted to me for Your Glory. These things I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Jesus calls His people to join His mission, inviting others to receive salvation. Jesus died to forgive our sins. To surrender means to use all we have to follow Him. We should do as Jesus did by loving others and casting His net, the Gospel. Today, pray to become someone who fishes for souls!

“Are You Able To Maintain your Humbleness?”
Things of the world will happen if it is in God’s plan. God wants us to be humble because the Devil will work through people who are proud.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
We should seek the Lord’s face, and he will hear from heaven and heal our land. God is in charge of everything.
God resist the proud. (James 4:6 ) and we should humble self in the sight of the Lord.(James 4:10).
Don’t get involved with the world. We must be ready in season and out of season. We must be prepared for what God has for us to do.
No one wants to take the blame or apologize. God commanded Adam not to eat of the fruit from the tree before the snake started talking to him and before Eve was created.
Adam told Eve not to eat the fruit, Adam is to blame because he was told by God not to do it. (Genesis3:6, 11, &13)
We should not raise a false report.(Exodus 23) and avoid false accusers.(Leviticus 19:16)
Korah lost his life when he came against Moses and Aaron. Some of the congregation came against Moses and Aaron because of Korah and although Moses sent Aaron down to intercede on the people’s behalf with the Lord, 14,000 still lost their lives. (Numbers 16:3, 26-35, & 41.
Jezebel plotted the death of Naboth by having him falsly accused and stoned to death. She will be taken care of during Judgement day. (1Kings 21:7-10, & 13).
We must sanctif yourselves (1Peter 3:15)
Satan is the accuser (Job 2:9) and (Revelation 12:9-10)
We must be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.(James 1:29-20) God Bless.

Sunshine warmed our hearts as we gathered to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano. We rejoiced with Dixie Collins on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The title of interim Pastor Steve Sowell’s sermon was “In Light of the Gospel We Shall Live for Christ.” The scripture passage was from 1Peter 1: 1-25. Life is not perfect, but as believers in Christ we know God is always with us. We should abide in Christ and prepare our minds to focus on Him. We must be sober minded keeping our feelings under control. We must also be thankful for God’s grace and mercy and set our hope in Christ alone. As we commit to reading the Bible, we learn to live according to His words and not worldly ones. Have a blessed week.
