The 2022 MSHSAA State Track Championships were held on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 at Adkins Field on the campus of Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City.
Coach Johnson commented, “The CHS Cardinals had some things go really well and some things not go as planned.”
He said, “I am very proud of all their hard work and dedication to this sport. It is always a very long season when you make it all the way to state, something to be very proud of. The state meet brings thousands of spectators and athletes together to compete for their schools.”
It should be noted that many of the Cardinal ‘Track Staters‘ are underclassmen. Although only two Cardinals medaled, many were in the hunt.

CHS- 1st Day Results:
*Boys Pole Vault- Triston Switzer placed 4th (All-State). He cleared 3.86m or 12-8 ft. Triston is only a sophomore and is new to the sport. Quite a year.
*Boys 4x800- Derek McCormack, Brant Bremer, Gage Ross, Brody Vernon. Placed 15th, (8:50.40).
*Girls Javelin- Briley Wishard placed 8th, (All-State). She threw 35.66m or 117 feet. In dramatic fashion, she made her medal-winning throw on her sixth and last attempt. She is only a sophomore. The Javelin event is new to the girls’ division, starting in 2018. Briley set the school record at Sectionals with a throw of 38.79m. I am sure Briley knows that throw would have placed her 4th at State.
