Dawn Rose Hamilton Beasley
In celebration of the life of Dawn Rose Hamilton Beasley, as noted by her husband of 62 years, Carl Beasley.
Dawn was born at 5:30 AM August 15, 1940 at her home, 618 West Clinton Street in Clinton, to John C. and Thelma Pinkston Hamilton.
She was the fourth and final child of the family and received her name from her Mom who exclaimed, “I’ll call her Dawn!” as she arrived at the same time of the new day. She lived in the same house where she was born until her marriage on August 18th, 1958.
She went to school here in Clinton and graduated in the top ten of her class. A fact of which she was very proud. I liked to kid her that I too graduated in the top ten of my class. She was quick to come back, “Urich only had 10 graduates that year.”
Dawn was a quiet, soft-spoken person, but stubborn in her convictions.
She had 4 children, 3 boys and a girl, which we lost to breast cancer at age 40. They were Gene, Cathy, Dennis and David. She had many friends but was unable to enjoy them the last few years of her life due to her health.
Her greatest love after her Lord was her husband, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She always put herself last.
Her jobs through life were as follows: she picked up rural kids for the early learning at Urich, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, she substituted as a phone operator for Edith and Daisy Jefferson in Urich when they needed off. This was a special challenge, as no one called by number. They all said “Daisy give me the café” etc., having to look the number up for herself.
She worked in the snack bar at the weekend club that we co-owned with J.W. and Sue Shepherd, until it mysteriously burned down. She also owned and operated the Sherwood Free Press for 23 years until her health no longer allowed that.
She was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 22 but didn’t get it under control before it took control of her eyes, heart, feet, legs, and kidneys (actually her whole body.)
Her most enjoyable thing to do was playing outside games with the kids, fishing, target practice with the .22, making scrapbooks, shopping, watching TV and going to movies. Of course, spending all her days and nights on her Free Press (shopper paper) for the week.
She always had a camera with her, but it was always pointed the other direction, so we have lots of pictures, but not many of her.
Due to COVID, she didn’t have a funeral, so we quietly sent her on. Meaning again, she was put last.
