MSHSAA only created a separate high school girls wrestling division four years ago, but the sport has clearly taken off. Recently a Missouri girls team, including Clinton’s Amitria McNack, went to the National Dual Tournament in Tulsa Oklahoma, and took 5th. In this Gold/Silver bracket California took first. In the Bronze Bracket, Missouri took 2nd and Ohio took first. Not bad for a State that was late to the dance.
Plus, Missouri took a record-breaking 97 girls to the USA Nationals, July 19-22, in Fargo, ND. This number not only broke the tournament record, but the squad took 2nd in the 16U tournament. Iowa took first with 90 points, Missouri was close with 87. In the Juniors’ tournament Missouri placed 4th. Missouri is doing well.
In the Junior division seven Missouri girls placed. Amitria was the only one who made it to the championship round. The other six girls placed 3rd through 8th.
Many that were questioning if Missouri girl wrestling would make it have nothing to worry about. Go Missouri girls!
