More than 500 female wrestlers participated in Battle’s Wonder Woman Wrestling Tournament. The tournament was held in Columbia on Dec. 29-30 and had been postponed last year due to Covid.
Over 500 female wrestlers and 75 teams from several states, including Oklahoma, Ohio, Illinois and Missouri participated.
The tournament is also trying hard to emphasize the use of female officials, photographers, etc. At 66, Barb Brummet, head official said her wish, for the tournament moving forward, is to see an all-female officiating staff. Brummet said, “To my knowledge, this is the largest female tournament in the country.”
The annual tournament got its start in 2019, by the then-Battle head wrestling coach Michael Wakim.
Wakim is now the tournament’s director.
