Trent Green
Trent Green, in a sense, is a unique Missouri sports legend.
He was born in Iowa on July 9, 1970, but he grew up and attended school in Missouri. He went to high school in Kirkwood, a suburb of St. Louis. He was a stand-out basketball player but he loved football and played college football at Indiana University and did well.
He was drafted in 1993 by San Diego in the eighth round and ended up playing for seven different teams. He did not get to see real NFL action until 1998. He was traded by the Redskins to the Rams. So, he is a Missouri kid that got to play QB for both Missouri pro-teams, the St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs.
In St. Louis he was ‘pipped’ (replaced) by Kurt Warner in 1999. (The year they won the Super Bowl.) Trent did start five games in the middle of the 2000 season when Warner was injured. Trent was traded to the Chiefs in 2000. He struggled at first, but had very good years starting in 2003. Trent had five good years in KC before he was traded to the Dolphins.
Trent had two serious concussions, the first in 2006, these injuries were a factor in his decision to retire in 2009. He had always wanted to be a broadcaster and that is exactly what he has done, working for CBS.
A Missouri kid that was a pretty good QB and also known as ‘One of the Good Guys’. Green has two sons that played football (one played for Rockhurst) and guess what position they played?
